I am a mother of three young children. I work evenings and spend my morning digging up the lives of the dead. |
I started on this path searching for my families ancestors about four years ago. I've hit so many brick walls that it's slow progress now finding them. So I've turned my attention to preserving the history and the lives of those buried here near my home. It has been an interesting path and I'm enjoying every minute of it. My true passion is writing the history of those buried at the old Paupers Cemetery, now Kootenia County Cemetery not far from my home. It is an old forgot cemetery with a few wooden crosses that don't even have names, simply because other then about five people we don't know where the rest are buried. You can read much more about my work at www.untangledfamilyroots.blogspot.com.

If you check his memorial at Andalusia Cemetery, I took a picture of the map that shows the plot he owns :-)

The Andalusia Cemetery was taken over by The Andalusia Cemetery Association in 1865. In 1867 they began removing remains if the family did not pay for the plot they were buried in. I have the records from the secretary of the Association to prove this. The remains were put in Potters Field at the cemetery. It is at the base of the lower north hill. Daniel was married to my 2nd Great Grandmother Priscilla Floyd Gorham when he died. Further, as a peculiar note I have the Cemetery map from the second survey that was done and filed in a different county. Stones were removed and blacktop installed over burials. My father dug graves there as a child and my grandfather was caretaker at the time of his death in 1935. Daniel's name is on the map I have. They usually will show no burial information for the lot owner. They whole thing is a mess. Further, please remember that the first burial there was in 1836, a young man by the name of Giles Gabbert died while working at his grandfather's ferry business. His grandfather Benjamin Clark gave the cemetery land to the people of Clark's Landing as a burying ground. The community later became known as Rockport and finally as Andalusia.

Here are links to Thomas and Katharine on Family Search.
If you have not used Family Search before, membership is free.
Thomas was born in Nebraska, his parents were from England. Katharine was born in the Odessa region of Russia to German parents. I have done all of the genealogy for the family. Katharine was one of the more difficult to track since no one knew her maiden name. The work is quite addictive. I have spent the past year totally obsessed, and it's not even my family!

Thank you for contacting me regarding Thomas and Katharine Hodge. They were my wife's paternal grandparents. They died when her father was quite young, so little was known about them. I appreciate your info about the cemetery.
I would be very happy if you would transfer the memorial to me.

I'm doing good and still doing the family search too. When I think I've came to a dead end something new will pop up and I'm off on a new line.
Good to hear from you again!
