I am a native of Austin Texas. Have lived elsewhere during my life, but resided in Austin the majority of my life. My husband and I had been been raising our 2nd family since 1995 (raising 3 grandchildren since 1995 when they were 1, 3, and 5). We both retired from IBM Austin and only have one of our grandchildren still at home with us and we just moved to Oklahoma on December 19, 2009. We still have our home in Austin (may sell or lease it), but are now living in Oklahoma (our youngest granddaughter started her 2nd term of 10th grade on January 4, 2010).|
I am a member of the DAR under patriot Moses Cherry and am a member of the DRT under patriot Andrew Miller. I also have a number of other surnames qualifying for above and other wars, but have only submitted/approved on the above (as of May 12, 2014) but plan when I get the time to submit additional membership applications under other surnames).
I've been doing genealogy research on my family since late 70's/early 80's when it required spending much time in the libraries and ordering mircrofilm to be borrowed from Salt Lake City and sent to my local LDS library. We've certainly come a long way since the 80's haven't we? We have so many online resources today and the databases get larger by the day. I am a member of the Stephen F Austin (DRT) Daughters of the Republic of Texas (descendent of ANDEW MILLER line) and a member of the DAR in Ardmore, OK under MOSES DAWSON CHERRY partriot who is my 5th great grandfather (via their son: Samuel Torbert CHERRY & wife Sarah R Bell-Cherry's daughter: ELIZABETH ANN CHERRY who married ROBERT JAMES GILL whom are my 3rd great grandparents).
Having ancestry.com, findagrave.com and more and more data being made available online it certainly helps us genealogy buffs.
I have only been a member and volunteer at findagrave for about 6 months (as of May 2009), but I find it a great resource where we can pitch in and help each other from afar to locate our relatives. I thank all who have helped me as a "newbie" to findagrave and hope I can help others too. I've made some very dear friends through findagrave over the past 6 months and look forward to meeting many more, so have changed by contributor page volunteer to our new zip code 73098 (previously 78729).
Some of my primary surnames being researched are: LEHMANN, YOUNG, McCAN/McCANN, FULCHER, DUCKWORTH, HYATT, SPERLING, HEISSIG, FRANKE, ECKHARDT, PORCHE, FUCHS, SHELTON, WEST, BIRD/BYRD, DOROUGH-DORROUGH, COCHRAN, DAVIS, CHERRY, MILLER, NEAL, LYNCH, DAVIDSON, OLIVER, NALLEY, TURNER, LOTT, GILL, CAGE, CAYCE, FOX, FRANKE, LEE, WALLACE, AIKMAN, TEAS, BLACKWELL, TEAGUE, HARRISON, and my husband's FRENCH surname line.

I got your note re: Alva (McCann) Satterwhite and her divorce from Durwood Robbins. I had the information in my file but had overlooked entering it. Thanks for pointing it out. :) My connection is with the Satterwhites back to the McGees.

I just submitted an edit to you via the edit tab. I think that Henry's name is incorrect. I've been tracing the lineage of Henry and Lillie's son, John Thompson Rector. John's death cert listed his father's initials as H.H. I pursued this clue and discovered a marriage license for Lillie and Henry in District of Columbia, which is just a small ways from Fauquier County, VA.
I copied this directly from the record:
NAME: Henry Holtsclaw Rector
BIRTH DATE: 1857
MARRIAGE DATE: 15 Jan 1877
MARRIAGE PLACE: District of Columbia, United States
SPOUSE: Lillie Margaret Virginia Hall
FHL FILM NUMBER: 2025886
REFERENCE ID: 1764

|Kathy Adams||RE: George Thurston Lewis|
You are certainly welcome.
|Kathy Adams||RE: George Thurston Lewis|
I have transferred his memorial as you have a connection to his family and I have none at all. I am sure your added info will help those researching his line. I will try to get back out to look at his grave again and see if any other Lewis are near. Can't promise anything but will give it a try.
|mick williams||RE: Martha Mildred Tucker-Ellis-Ellison|
Okay...i added the pictures for Martha's page that you requested. I do note that the creator of the page listed only Judge Ellison as Martha's only husband. I guess she has not linked in George Ellis as husband #1. Hopefully we can all get it straight soon enough. How confusing! Thanks!
|mick williams||RE: Jimmy Shelton headstone pic request...|
okay, I have added the up-close picture
of Mr. Shelton's grave marker. Thanks!
