Just a friend!|
Please understand that I have no control over the names, words and dates engraved on stones, written on death certificates or provided in obituaries. I didn't write them. I'm only providing those previously written words to you.
I have been an active contributor on this site for over 15 years, so yes it stands to reason that I have a fair number of memorials that I have entered, added to and lovingly care take even though they may not be a branch of my own family. It's quite possible that if I had not entered the memorial to begin with, you may not have been able to find them.
Individuals using this site need to realize that we are all volunteers and do not need to deal with abusive behavior or rudeness just because we won't make a transfer to someone who has registered two days or two months ago and want every memorial on the site with the surname of Jones. Or a transfer of a memorial of someone who they think just might be a fifth cousin, four times removed of their third ex-husband.
If you are new to this site, PLEASE read the "Frequently Asked Questions" located "HERE". If you take just a moment to familiarize yourself with these guidelines, it will definitely help yours and everyone else's state of mind, blood pressure and headaches. Just a hint, most people will not respond to your liking when bullying tactics are used.
If you will please use the "Edit" tab located on each memorial, I will be more than happy to correct, edit or add information to a memorial that is meaningful. I will not add all of the information from the past ten census records that have been released or any distasteful or disturbing messages.
Please be kind. We all make mistakes from time to time. If I have made a mistake or created a duplicate memorial later than one you have created, please use the "Edit" tab and send me the correction or let me know of the duplication and it will be taken care of quickly.
I will make transfers using the "Guidelines" if they are not a relative of mine. I will transfer your children, siblings, parents, grandparents or great-grandparents. All other requested transfers will be considered if you use the "Edit" feature and state your relationship or intended need for the memorial.
Lastly and most importantly, there are so many absolutely wonderful people that use Find-A-Grave! I am very appreciative for all of the suggested corrections, additional information and photos that have been provided. Please don't allow the rude, abusive and sometimes rather bizarre behavior of individuals to curb your enthusiasm or your want to help others.

Posting no problem ... its a "team effort" although I have occasionally run into contributors that are VERY possessive of their research/info ... never can figure out that mentality?
All the best from HOT Florida,

Yep ... In digging deeper it does look like there are 2 separate William Coombs'. From Internment Orders:
- William S Coombs, d.4 Feb 1901, Grave#2917.
Private, A Co, 6th IN Infantry
- William Coombs, d.19 Feb 1899, Grave #2896, Private, B Co, 125 USCT (U.S. Colored Troops) Infantry .... found him listed as a Colored Infantry, but last name spelled "Cooms" .. see http://www.combs-families.org/combs/military/cw/union/usct.htm
I'd go with the Coombs spelling as that was on the internment order. Being a Coombs myself I know how the name can be butchered? Back in those days it was often how the writer heard it pronounced.
Mystery solved! Quite a coincidence two men with such similar names buried so close?

I just filled a request for this person and its the weirdest of all the photos I have taken. the photo came out really clear with a little glare. i have learned from the past, on request, i take 2 different ones. the same thing happened on both. when i posted the photo, it cames out blurry because findagrave adds a a little magnification to all the photos. im going back to Alexandria on aug 14th and i will take another photo(if it doesn't rain). if i cant get another photo, i will let you know. if this photo is good enough, let me know as well, thanks.

I just found for the above referenced memorial that you have posted a photograph. This is my dad's cousin's grandfather. I'm wondering if you are also related in some way? and also if you wouldn't mind? I would like to make a copy of the photo to take to my dad's cousin. Thank you!!
