Bio Photo Just trying to track down my roots and help others on my journey.

I am a volunteer at the Historic Sacramento City Cemetery, and spend most of my time photographing it and the Masonic Lawn and Odd Fellows Lawn Cemeteries which are next door. The volunteers at the City Cemetery are in the process of entering all the cemetery records from various books into one searchable database. They are just starting out with the lot deeds and sales, and will move on to the burial locations as well as histories and photographs of the more notable residents. There were over 30,000 burials at the cemetery. The Cemetery used to have 50 acres, including the property where the Masonic Lawn and Odd Fellows Lawn now sits. So many of the burials were originally part of the City Cemetery are now apart of the other two. Also to add to the confusion, there are a few smaller cemeteries that reside within the City Cemetery. One of them being the Firemen's lot, which the Fire Dept. still maintains. Also during the great floods, the New Helvetia Cemetery was damaged from flood waters and many coffins floated up and away. The entire cemetery was relocated within the City Cemetery and some of the relocated people could not be identified. There were also mass burials from the Cholera epidemic. The project underway is a tremendous effort to organize the piles of old records and deeds. Please be patient if the volunteers can't give you much information on a person right away. It is not a simple thing to just pick up a book and find the name, there are many, many volumes of books spanning back over a century. And some are not in order by name.

RE: Gen Alfred Redington
Hi Margaret - All in all, it sounds like the best thing is to leave as is. You have added a ton of info and photos that I'd hate to see lost. From my viewpoint, a Find A Grave duplicate isn't the worst thing in the world. Gen Redington probably wished at times there were two of him. :o) Your decision. Have a good holiday. Regards, Phyllis

RE: Adams in Masonic Cemeter
I just got back on here and saw your message about Minnie & Ted Adams and if i wanted to take over their memorials, yes that would be great. Thank you again for taking the time to set up a memorial for them.

re: Mary Bowater

Mary (Davis) Bowater Alles, I am so confused on this as to what is right and what is wrong. I am new to all of this genealogy searching. But I have learned you have to prove what you state. I was assuming from what was being said in quaker records must be right?? I have so many children for this lady and have no idea which ones are right. if you could give me some clarification I would really appreciate it. She would be my husbands 6th great grandmother. the following is a list of what i have for children.
