Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm researching the Rev David Rice line in VA, KY and TN; and the Philip Walker line in MA-RI-CT-NY-WI. If you have, or need, information about these families, please contact me.

I'm a cantor, organist and conductor, and I enjoy photographing old gravestones.

Find-a-Grave offers an opportunity to share information on an unprecedented scale. Much like Google's project to digitize every book ever published, this site aspires to document the lives of everyone who has gone before us! How cool would THAT be?

Family links for our Barbara Brumbach Strickler Kauffman
Have been working on our Shenandoah ancestors. I now maintain three more grave memorials. Would you please link our Barbara #71772463, to her parents - Johann Heinrich "Henry" Brumbach, #59044451 and Anna Kauffman Brumbach, #59044520. Happy Easter, Freda

RE: valentine peyton
Just an update. We have removed Valentine Peyton of the RW as being buried at Western Hospital. Thank you very much for your help and in making this correction. Kindly, Craig Kibly

RE: valentine peyton & Thomas Lewis
OK. First to explain my interest in these two men. I am working for the VA SAR for a book on burials of Rev War veterans in Virginia. My major role in this is not the research, but in vetting and editing the entries on a spreadsheet. These two men are shown to have been buried at Western State. The source for Thomas Lewis is a four-volume work by P.L Hatcher, *Abstract of Graves Revolutionary War Patriots,* (2001). Since the hospital opened in 1828 and he was alive in 1832 and of Augusta County when he applied for a pension, this does seem plausible though I do NOT know the source Hatcher used.

For Valentine Peyton I see that the dates do not work at all. The source for this came from a book on cemeteries in STAFFORD County, which is where he was born. A man by this name does, however, show up as being buried here. Considering his rank at the time of his death in 1780 (in South Carolina), this does indeed seem incongruous.

I have asked Mike Lyman, the man both doing and compiling the research, to look into both of these. Many thanks for your replies. Craig Kilby

RE: Thomas Lewis
I didn't say he was born in 1832. I said he applied for a pension in 1832 and gave his birth date as 26 Jan 1760.

Western State Hospital Cemetery
May I ask where you obtained the grave listing for Western State? You did an excellent job of listing these often-sought but long forgotten graves.
I understand that some people have been denied access to the cemetery by the new owners (Villages at Staunton) of the property.

RE: joseph whitlock
Hey, Joann, thank you!

The Hale information doesn't completely jibe with what I have (which comes from a combination of a private Raymond genealogist and a few stray scraps published here and there), but most of it is close. But I totally agree, nothing's completely reliable, and using just Hale isn't a good idea (I wound up with someone married to his mother that way). I'm hoping to be in Connecticut again next summer, and this cemetery is on my list of places to go. Hopefully, I can get more answers then.

I'm noticing that the Hale information has a difference name for this cemetery. Assuming the name has changed over the years?

I appreciate your help here!

RE: lockwood
Now it shows, go figure! Your pics haven't shown for me for days, but today I can see them! There's a duplicate for this listing under "unknown Lockwood," not sure how to handle that? The lady who set it up is quite nice, very helpful and friendly. Is there a protocol? I'm actually pretty new to cataloging cemeteries here, and I don't want to make any missteps.

RE: lockwood stone
Hi! I am a relative, though I can't begin to express the relationship in a way that makes sense. My family traces back to the old Norwalk St. Johns (and Raymonds, Crofoots, and others), and Mary Weed, who was married to Joseph Lockwood, was also once married to Mark St. John. I'm just now getting a handle on all my ancestors there in Norwalk, and finding numerous "double lines," where, for instance, both husband and wife descend from the same great-great grandparents.

I would love to have this memorial, if you're okay with parting. I appreciate the offer!
