For the past 20 years I have been on the genealogy staff at the Mesa Arizona FamilySearch Library. Some of my specialties are internet genealogy research and U.S. military records. I have been researching my family genealogy most of my adult life

I consider all transfers, other than the Price/Nance memorials. These are non-negotiable. Due to the large number of transfer requests outside the rules of four generations, I also reserve the choice to follow the Find A Grave suggested transfer rules.

Please use the memorial EDIT option to make corrections, additions and transfer requests. List your profile name and number. Thank you.

Hoyts in Eldora, Iowa
Hi, I wonder if you might transfer 5 graves of Hoyts in Eldora City Cemetery. The two men are my grandfather's brothers: Charles #112677261 and wife Anna #112677297. William A. #112651880, wife Addie May #112651831 and their daughter Susan #112651926. I have dates and other information and will get over to Eldora City Cemetery shortly for pictures. Thank you for all your work. - Denny Hoyt

RE: James Martin 77369951
Thank you for the prompt response. After I contacted you, I found my James Martin's death certificate has a notation that he was buried in Mount Olivet, which is apparently in Fort Worth. A quick search of the Find A Grave listings for Mount Olivet in Fort Worth, didn't show a James Martin with the right birth and death dates.

I don't know if the death certificate is wrong, or his grave hasn't been recorded yet, but unless I turn up something positive, I'm going with the death certificate and assume my James Martin is in Mount Olivet.

Again, thanks for the help, but I don't believe your James Martin is the one I'm looking for.

James Martin 77369951

My name is Bill Guion. My Find A Grave member number is 48259871. My sister is married to Ernie Martin, whose grandfather is James Bell Martin. I have a copy of a death certificate for Jim, which I would be happy to share with you if you are interested.

It isn't at all clear that your Jim Martin is the same Jim Martin as mine. My Jim Martin was born on 28 February 1880 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He died on 30 November 1951. The names and birth dates are similar, and the death year is the same. So I was wondering if you have a source for the death date of your Jim Martin?

It is certainly reasonable that there are two Jim Martins with close birth dates and death dates. Jim Martin is not that uncommon a name. The bottom line question is, are the two individuals the same?

You may contact me here on Find A Grave, or email me at

RE: Cemeteries
It's actually just as time consuming preparing the list before going to the cemetery. Find A Grave will send you a list of all the memorials listed for the cemetery, but then you have to look at each memorial and see if the headstone picture is legible or not, because if it is not, we take another picture. Also if the picture is of a metal marker, we look to see if a stone has been placed yet. In other words, even if the Find A Grave field is marked Yes (there is a picture of a stone), another photo might be required. I used to take the full list, but for big cemeteries, that's too long. I've found that carrying a list of all memorials that have good pictures is sufficient. If the name isn't on the "good picture" list, we take a picture.

RE: Cemeteries
Thank you very much! I enjoy doing it. Sure, you can use my process as a example.

RE: Return
Thanks! I will try to hold off on edits until the end of next week. Last week I was in Letcher County and I took over 1,000 headstone photos. It will probably take me another week, or so, to get them all uploaded. :) Travel safely.

Letter to Isham Nance from his mother
To Shirley Price Nance:

Is there a possibility that a copy of the letter from Elizabeth Ivey Nance to Isham Nance at the time of Marshall Nance's death could be obtained? I am working on a DAR membership application for Joyce. This letter that you have transcribed to Isham's Find A Grave page would be helpful.

Enjoy the cooler weather,, ironic,, your in SLC,, I'm in Phoenix.. Yes,,, I spent one afternoon shooting pictures at the National Cemetery with the letter "D" for a surname last January on a whim while working.. It is a breathtaking and very unique cemetery..

I find myself buried (no pun intended) in photographs from Veteran Cemeteries from my travels... looking for time to edit, research and post a quality shot for our vets..

Have you seen Normandy on a clear day,, what a beautiful place to visit if you get the chance, Lorraine and St. Mihiel WWI.. Again I went during some business trips and filled the V Shots,, but made a effort to shoot Sections D at each one..

Most of the shots have turned out great and the stories during the research ( as I am sure you know ) are just priceless.. On occasion, the surviving family members will drop me a line which is a a real treat..

Thanks for your kind words and I thank you for all of your time and effort as well,,, Enjoy your trip..
