trying to stay ahead of developers who want to cover historical markers... and the weather, time and vandals that obscure the inscriptions... to honor those that walked before us.|
Although I visit cemeteries whenever I travel (to the dismay of others in the car), most of my work is in Vermont, New Hampshire, New York's lower Hudson Valley and Washington State's Skagit County. I've been known to wander off to Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine given the opportunity.
Whenever possible, I post a photo--a photo makes it real. I also try to list the sources I've used to stitch together family relations or any info that I might find. I will not link to those who are listed as burial location unknown.
Thank you in advance for sending in corrections or additions using the Edit button. I appreciate your updates very much. Although I try to thank and acknowledge all corrections, I may not always have the time. Edits posted in the message area below will be ignored and deleted.
I transfer direct relatives within three generations (that means: your siblings, parents, grandparents, children, and grandchildren). As Richard H so aptly puts it:
"... someone who died 200 years ago could be related to thousands of people." Please use the virtual cemetery feature to group your family memorials.
My activity is seasonal--I use the New England winters to create new memorials with the images I've collected the rest of the year. There are several thousand waiting to be processed... Click here to see the memorials I've added in the past few 7 days.

Yea I'm still trying to figure the ins and outs of using this. But it's been a great resource, and has helped me with my family research. It can give me dates I didn't have, or confirm that I'm headed in the wrong direction. Now, I just need to put this away so I can cook dinner. I seem to have stumbled into a new batch of ancestors I didn't know I had! Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!!

Would you please add Sarah Wood (born 1830) as his daughter (his number is 89836970)? She was married to one of my ancestors, Lucius Groves. You can find her at 164978069, Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord, NH. Thank you very much!

Greetings! I've a question for you re: researching from afar. I'm working on a tree for a friend who is also an expat from NY. I have found someone who probably died in the poorhouse Dec 1918. Documentation puts him there in Nov - by the next month his widow is filing for his pension (Spanish American veteran). I am still looking for newspaper articles, etc. . .
Any helpful hints would be appreciated. Thank you!
I finished uploading all the photos that I had for the Old Lyme Cemetery, including the 400 photos that you had taken. Almost all of yours were in great shape and very readable. I will go back and check on about 10 to make sure that I got the info correct. I also uploaded all my photos from the other sections of Old Lyme, so it is very complete. Find A Grave shows it as 90% photographed, but I'll add some more photos as I get some of the almost illegible ones figures out. There are also some duplicates that need to be fixed. I am so glad to have this mostly finished. Now I'll be able to do my Christmas shopping! Thanks again for helping me get this one done!

I could meet up this Sunday for an hour or two around midday or the following weekend for an hour or two. I have 8 year-old twins at home who don't leave me much time for grave concerns. I think there may be 800 stones which have not been photographed in two big sections. I tend to be slow because when I find a hard to read stone I take the time to transcribe it into a notebook for later reference.

To be honest, I'm not sure what the corrections were, but if it was the dates and places of birth and death, it was etched on the stone.

Regarding whom? I'd be happy to help.
