I feel very strongly about family and friends and am very dedicated to both. My wife and two children are my life and I would do anything for them. I believe it's not what you own in life that defines you, but how others feel about you that does.
I worked in law enforcement for over 30 years, and my co-workers are like family to me as well. I have tremendous respect for those that spend their time serving and protecting others: doctors, nurses, firemen, police officers, EMS personnel, to name a few.
I worked with teenagers in rehab. As a counselor technician working with teens, in addition to assisting them with their addictions, I assisted them with their day to day needs and helped them work through their personal problems. Sometimes they just needed someone to listen. It made me feel very good to help them re-discover the joys of life and living.
I also worked with seniors, and the ill and infirm, at a local nursing home and health care facility, tending to their dietary needs. Being a part of the food service staff was a reward in itself, working in conjunction with the various nursing staff members who ensured the patients received each of their regular meals, as well as any special dietary requirements.
My father was in the Air Force and later, the National Guard Army. My step-dad was in the Army. He was also in law enforcement. I've followed in his footsteps and believe there's no better calling than helping others.
I believe we should respect and honor those who have passed away. They are our parents, grand-parents and friends. If we loved them while they were here, why shouldn't we show our love for them after they're gone? That's why I believe Find-A-Grave is such a great place for each of us to share our loved ones with one another.
