Dear Ancestor

Your tombstone stands among the rest,
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marble stone.

It reaches out to all who care,
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist.
You died and I was born.

Yet each of us are cells of you,
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse,
Entirely not our own.

Dear Ancestor, the place you filled,
So many years ago.
Spreads out among the ones you left,
Who would have loved you so.

I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew.
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

Police Officers - Woronora Memorial
Hi,Constable Garnet Mortley was cremated at Rookwood on 3rd June 1953. However I can't say that is where his ashes are! The Coroner determined his death was an accident after the front tyre on his bike blew out. (from Sydney Morning Herald)
Sgt William Roy Smith funeral Service was in Wollongong. Cremated at Woronora but record shows ashes posted away. So no help at all.
That's about it! If there are additions to the memorial I will let you know.

Police Memorials
Hi, like what you are doing with this. In addition to Kenneth Short there are about another 20 Police who died on duty at Woronora. All are listed on the Special Police Memorial. I will work on them over time but so far you can find Dana Heffernan, James Affleck, Raymond Smith will leave names of others when done if you would like

Lenny McPherson
I visited Field of Mars cemetery today to try looking for Lenny again. Well good news is I found the correct location and found Lenny, they had sent me to Stage 1 the first time not Stage 2.

I have put the pictures up on his page, will go back another day to take better pics when the sun is in a better position.

william george benbow
Hi again rick, was looking through your aussie police officers and was amazed to find the memorial of bill benbow, he is distantly related to me, my great grandmother was a benbow and all of my family are from Eaglehawk/Bendigo his wife Suzanne's maiden name was Allen and she was born in new Zealand on the 28th February 1949 if you want to update her memorial page, there daughter Tracey Ann went to live in new Zealand with her grandparents and is currently living in Guernsey the channel islands in England, she was born on the 8th November 1969 never realised that bill benbow was the police officer killed in the wall collapse do remember that the father and daughter killed was Theresa and Eugenio santilli they are buried in the Melbourne cemetery, have photos of there grave
cheers Darren
