I took over after my Aunt Geraldine Martinez passed. This is all new to me but I have become addicted in finding where my family members rest. No one should be forgotten.|
I was born in Alexandria, Virginia and now resides in Florida.
I am researching, on my fathers side of the family, Rhodes, Walters, Wright & Brockman in Virginia. On my mothers side, Lytle, Channing, Hayden & Moore in Pennsylvania. And for my Grandchildren, Greene, Caudill. Hutchinson & Vallance's in Kentucky.
I have noticed that I am not the only one impatient with the tokens coming up and I end up with two. I found that if you click on the flowers it will take you to a link to delete the extra one. =)
I have also found a link to calculate birth dates, so when you only have a date of death & the headstone gives you their years it will give you the date of birth. http://longislandgenealogy.com/birth.html
I have met the most wonderful people with Find-a-Grave. What a great family we have here. Thank you all for doing what you do.
Everyone has been so generous with their photos that I would like to reciprocate. You may use my photos in you family trees. All I ask is recognition from whom you got them.
Happy Hunting =)
"If you could see your ancestors
All standing in a row,
There might be some of them, perhaps,
You wouldn't want to know.
But, here's another question, which
Requires another view,
If you could meet your ancestors,
Would they be proud of you?"
Strangers in the Box
By Pamela A. Harazim
Come, look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I've often seen,
At the pictures, black and white,
Faces proud, still, serene.
I wish I knew the people,
These strangers in the box,
Their names and all their memories
Are lost among my socks.
I wonder what their lives were like.
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.
If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what, where, when,
These faces of my heritage
Would come to life again.
Could this become the fate
Of the pictures we take today?
The faces and the memories
Someday to be tossed away?
Make time to save your pictures,
Seize the opportunity when it knocks,
Or someday you and yours could be
The strangers in the box.

Hello Melva, No, I don't have a tree online yet but am working at it. Can you share yours with me, so I get a idea of to do it? Sincerely Dean
|Susan Sheldon||RE: Pierces|
I don't have an online tree yet. None of them begin in Virginia, but it appears some wandered that way at one time or another.
Unfortunately there have been some misidentifications over the years due to similar names and origins as I'm sure you know.
I think my line began in the states as Roth because of the germanic pronunciation. My forefolks originated in France and Mannheim Germany it seems. It looks like yours may be from Normandy?
I suspect we're all related at some point in history. Whatever language or pronunciation, the name always means the same.
|Susan Sheldon||RE: Pierces|
Ah, I see. She's my great great grandmother. Her line was fairly easy to trace, probably a great deal of that is thanks to you and your aunt. :)
Although there was quite a bit of movement in our Rhodes branch, I haven't run across a Hezekiah to my knowledge. I'll check back through my source material though, Some of them ventured pretty far afield.
Do you have an estimate on his birthdate?
My mother has helped me with names and relationships I have. She only knew her father's line back to her grandfather, James Monroe Pierce. I traced him back to his father and grandfather, John Monroe Pierce and Francis Pierce, all of whom were located in Grange City Kentucky at one time.
John and his wife Mary Ann (Reeves) are buried in Fairview cemetery in Fleming County, Kentucky as is a William, who's DOB matches that of one of John's nephews.
Francis and Sally had 6 children listed in the 1850 census:
I suspect William, who didn't show up until the 1870 census was their son as well despite the different spelling. He'd have been 31 at the time of the 1850 census and most likely was either established elsewhere or off adventuring.
In the 1900 census, John is living with his son James, as is James' brother William L Pierce. My grandfather, William Earl, is noted in this census with all but one of his siblings, who was born after it was taken.
John states in that document that both his parents wre born in Virginia, but Francis was apparently from Maryland originally.
The women have been easy to trace, but Francis I haven't been able to find parents for. Would you happen to have any knowledge of his origins?
John and Mary Ann had:
Almarinda who was born in Illinois
Sarah Elizabeth Pierce Pettit
and William L
John may have had a daughter with Mahulda Gregory Plummer named Robert Ann. There are no marriage or divorce records and Mahulda claimed to be a widow when she married Mr Plummer.
James and Nancy J Adams Pierce had:
Peachie Mae and
William Earl, my grandfather.
Charles Ora was born later.
My grandparents, William Earl and Mary rhodes Pierce had:
William Earl Jr.
Maybelle (Betty) Pierce Rubin
and my mother, Patricia Pierce Link
This is pretty much all I've got right now. I don't know how much of it will pertain to your family or if I can help in locating any lost ones, but I'd be willing to try.
It appears we're related somehow. My mothers parents were Pierces from Illinois via Kentucky and Rhodes' from Illinois via Pennsylvania.
I've been able to trace the Rhodes line back pretty far, but have been stymied by the Pierce line prior to their migration to Kentucky.

Thank you for thanking me. So many do not. If you have flowers/notes on my memorials as I go through them, I will transfer more.

Since you mention double tokens I thought you might want to delete one of them you left for her.
