Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Vickie. I grew up in Swannanoa, N.C. and now I live in Asheville. I enjoy researching family history and walking through cemeteries to read stones. Everyone deserves to be remembered. Someone somewhere loved them. Thanks to the great contributors here at Find a Grave, I have been able to see the graves of many family members that I would have never seen if it wasn't for their generosity. It is so nice to be able to visit a loved one's grave and not even leave the house.

If any of my memorials contain errors, or if you have information to add, please send me a message or an edit. All memorials are done with the utmost respect of those who have passed on and those of us left behind.

When my soul is restless
And things seem out of line,
I visit an old graveyard
To take a mystical step back in time.

I find the oldest tombstones
Then read the messages there;
I consider what their days had been
And how our lives in ways compare.

We all have lived though heartaches
As well as episodes of fun;
Surviving loss of loved ones,
And rewarded for a job well done.

Sometimes if I'm very still
I can hear what they have to say
And feel them reaching out to me
Grateful for my momentary stay.

Johnnie Clarke
Good Afternoon,

I am the son of Johnnie and I use findagrave all the time in my genealogy research. I just did a check on my dad for the heck of it and I was surprised that his name was already on the site. Thank you for putting it up and for doing a thorough job of putting my mom, his parents, and his brothers.

Willie Boyd Freeman
Willie Boyd Freeman (1922-1944) is actually the sister of Berta Freeman Jenkins. I added his correct mother, and I can't find a memorial for his father. It gets confusing when father and son have the same name.

What probably happened is he was originally buried in Magnolia Memorial. He was disinterred and moved to Highland.
His entry in Magnolia Gardens was from the cemetery book which was created from reading tombstones. I never found a marker. This cemetery had some financial problems in the past and it wasn't kept up. Shortly after moving to Hattiesburg in 1999, I actually walked across the cemetery in the dark and didn't even realize there was a cemetery there. There was a path through waist high weeds and bushes. A lot of people that were buried there were moved. If they weren't moved their marker was grown over and lost. I only found about 1/3 of the names that were in the cemetery book.
