My life forever changed October 30, 2014 when my Mimi passed away. She was my world. She often times asked me, "What would I do without you?" and I always turned the question around and asked what I would ever do without her. I knew she wouldn't live forever, obviously... but she never prepared me for the reality of a day when she wouldn't be here.|
Cypress View conducted her services and she is buried at Greenwood. Visiting both Cypress View and Greenwood just isn't the same as before. Maybe it will get back to the way it was, but for now I'm still around, and still happy to help with photos and research.
My name is Shayna and I am a San Diego native. I work for the County full time, but spend spare time with my family & pets (6 dogs & 1 cat, RIP Delaila). Some hobbies and things I like include: podcasts, photography, animals, nature, and -- of course -- genealogy.
My heritage is mostly German, but I also have a little bit of English and Welsh. Direct names include Oxley, Croft, Love, Shaneyfelt/Shanyfelt, and Mehlkop/Mehlkopf. There are many many names beyond that.
I am fascinated by many aspects of death -- not in a weird morbid way, but in improving the death experience (not surrounded by beeping machines in a hospital), seeing alternatives in the local funeral industry (can we get a green burial space in San Diego?), empowering individuals to know what is and isn't law (you don't HAVE to embalm grandma), and encouraging discussion about all of the above. We're all going to die -- why not educate and empower ourselves to be extra specific in our advanced directives? While we're alive and well, let's get it done. And for the sake of future findagrave volunteers, can we all promise to arrange for the engraving of our death date on our marker/plaque/headstone? The number of times I've come across a marker with no death date because the person had no next-of-kin to make sure it was taken care of...
I have family members at many local cemeteries (majority at Greenwood and Glen Abbey) but enjoy all the local spots and am happy to travel to any San Diego area cemetery for your photo request needs.
Photos & Photo Requests
Yes, you may use the photo(s) I took.
I typically shoot with a professional Nikon DSLR. Occasionally though, in a pinch, I'll snap photo requests with my iPhone 6 Plus. I'm pretty finicky when it comes to photo quality, though. If I need to get the top tier in a mausoleum, I'll bust out the zoom lens. I promise to always try and get the best photo possible!
I have added many many memorials at Cypress View Mausoleum (As of 3/31/2015 ALL NICHES from the North Building are on Find A Grave!!) and I already have the photos for almost all of the memorials I have created, so if you need a photo, just put a request in. If I manage to claim it and I have the photo, it should be up same-day.
Yes, I understand findagrave has set rules about whether or not one is "worthy" of requesting management, but as far as the memorials I manage, I'm typically more than happy to transfer management even if they're a distant relative, next door neighbor, 12th cousin once removed.. whatever. I'm not the "keeper of memorials" -- that's not my purpose for having added them in the first place.
If you have additional information or would like to edit information on a memorial I manage, please use the "Suggest a Correction" function. Otherwise, you're welcome to leave a message on my contributor page or e-mail me -- firstname.lastname@example.org
I am happy to take photos or do additional research -- just send an email and let me know what you need!
I input mass data using the spreadsheet tool, which automatically checks for duplicates. If I for some reason duplicate your memorial (because your date of birth or death is different than what is on the headstone/urn/niche/etc.) point out the duplicate and I'll take care of it -- there is NO need for rude e-mails.
Additionally, please do not update your memorial based off of my information and claim that I duplicated your memorial. Thank you!! =)

|Erika Lawson||Daisy Grubel|
Just wanted to send a head's up. I sent in a brief bio on Daisy Grubel #119852978 and then when I re-read what I sent you, I realized I left the family name off so I sent it again.
Her parents are Edward August Grubel and Sarah Emily "Sallie" (McGorray) Grubel.
So I sent it again with the surname added to what otherwise looks like the same exact information
Sorry if I'm confusing you. I apologize for that.

Hello! You were so great in helping me with family history and obits a few years ago that I am asking for HELP again. I thought I had the burial location for family members ~ George Hill Willson 1856 - 1934 died in Los Angeles and his wife Florence Baker Willson 1858-1939 death Los Angeles.
Based on what I was told I created memorials but have been told they are not there. Is there any way you have access to any records that would give me that information? Thanks so MUCH!! Have a GREAT DAY! Sharon
|Karen Goff||Family Information|
I am doing some research and would like to know if you are related to Thomas L. Shanyfelt who lived in Riverside, CA and at one time was married to or at least had to sons by Marianna Melkopf, Laurence and Michael. Marianna was born in Germany and was also married to Donald A. Breyer. I was married to Laurence. I have no information on Marianna and just found information on Thomas.
Thank you. You can reach me directly at email@example.com

I'd like a transfer of my great-great aunt and her husband Harry and Ericka Shern. They're FindaGrave entries: 118425672 and 118425671.

I had mistakenly claimed that photo request, just unclaimed so you can claim
|D. Meserole||Photo request for Ernest Delos Magee|
Hi, I noticed that one of the photo requests for Mount Hope is for Ernest Delos Magee, Memorial # 117578832. You already took this photo and posted it to his parents memorials.
