Hi, I am doing my friend's family tree, and I have come across rather a road block. His great grandmother was Charlote Ellen CULGAN, born somewhere around 1910-1915. That should be easy to track, so I don't understand why I'm just spinning my wheels.

She lived around Crookwell, when I first find her in 1930, and married Walter CRISP in Goulburn in 1936. They moved to Sydney after 1940. Do you think she is one of yours? The family have not been much help, lots of ums and ahs, and I forgets.

RE: Whorf grave Winthrop St. Cemetery Provincetown
Hi Joe: That's so interesting! I, too, am the 6th great grand-daughter of John and Sarah, descended through John, John, John, Henry, Isaiah, Harry and John, my grandfather. I have been trying for a while to connect that first John and Sarah to earlier generations of Whorfs but have had no luck. Also, I have not been able to locate anything about the first John Whorf. We know that he was married to Sarah because her headstone says so, but I've not been able to find a death record for him. Do you think that your family has any documentation that they might be wiling to share? Thanks for posting the grave on Find a Grave. Next time I am down there I will take a picture of the headstone which is still very legible. Best wishes, Amy

Whorf grave Winthrop St. Cemetery Provincetown
Hi Joe: I see that last year you submitted information for a John and Sarah Whorf/Wharff, buried in the Winthrop Street Cemetery in Provincetown. I am aware of the headstone for Sarah Wharfe which refers to her as the wife of John, but didn't have any information about John (1725-1790). Might I ask where you found the family information and his dates? Thanks very much for sharing what you might have.

RE: Helen Marie Skillings
Sure, I understand. Let me know when/if you can send along any source reference, and I would be happy to do so.

RE: Helen Marie Skillings
Sure; understood.

My question, though, is about the SOURCE of the information you are relaying to me. For example, the 1900 Gray census lists a birth date for Helen of Mar 1835, but the gravestone says she was b. 1836. Which is correct? Are there any primary records you can point me to where I can verify the info before posting it?

I have no problem with the census info... it is more about her date of birth and parentage. Where did you find this info?

Sorry to be a stickler for details, but once it is posted here on Find a Grave, many researchers will rely upon these details as "fact". I like to be reasonably sure the details are correct before posting.

RE: Helen Marie Skillings

The note I sent with the decline status requested source information for the couple of edits I declined, since the info conflicted with what was on the stone and I couldn't locate solid documentation online.

As to the name, I have seen family members go by Skillin, Skilling, and Skillings even from one generation to another, so it is difficult to determine which one might be "correct" for any individual. Without source info, I hesitate to change the record established at the time of their death (when the inscriptions were carved).

Please message me with any additional detail you might be able to provide.

Before I make the additions to this memorial, I would like to know the source. Have been burned by adding information without proof it is accurate.
