james west
Re james West memorial 143645564, I have inf.I could share to this, but I have some questions/differences first. the memorial page states he was b. in S.Carolina and died in Hart co Ky 1820 at hands of indians.
I have a "record of James west" written by my g-grandfather rev.T.W.Etherton, a son-in-law of Jacob West, who was grandson of James. I believe this to have been written down in the 1880's,and it states James was born in Md. left an orphan ,then went to philadelphia ,then to S.carolina where he md ,and all his children were born, thenmoved to hart co Ky where he died in his 87th yr.(app 1835).It states 12 names for children , I know James was orphaned in 1750 ,but i need some clarification on some of the other inf. I may have more inf i may be able to decipher from the west family bible.I copied the pages that were stable enough to do so.I would appreciate any help on bridging these differences

Mary Thurber Mason
Two key facts point to Mary Thurber, daughter of Samuel & Rachel, as the wife of Oliver Mason, buried in Saxtons River. The first is a marriage record for Oliver Mason and Mary Thurber in Rehoboth, MA on 25 Apr 1765. The second is Mary Mason's Rockingham, VT death certificate that gives her date of death as 21 Apr 1820 and her age as about 84. These records point to Bristol County, MA and to a birth year of 1736. Mary's gravestone in Saxtons River also gives her age as 84.

Samuel & Rachel Thurber had a daughter they named Mary on 25 Jun 1732 in Rehoboth; this little girl died on 9 Jul 1736. After their loss, they Christened another daughter, born 25 Jun 1736, as Mary. It is highly probable that this is the Mary who wed Oliver.

Mary Thurber, daughter of Edward & Hannah Thurber, born 29 Feb 1748 in Providence, RI, would have been only 72 in 1820 -- not 84 as my six times great grandmother was. That Mary married Benjamin Alger in Providence in 1769, and died in Providence in 1815. It is not possible that this is the Mary who wed Oliver.

James Jarmin
Hi CW. I am amazed at all the work you have done on here. Thank you for all you do!

I am doing some research for a neighbor friend that is 95 years old. In my research, he is connected through cousins to your 4th Great Grandfather, James Jarmin. I am finding though, the more research I do on James Jarmin, the more confused I am getting when it comes his wives and which mothers go to which children. If my research is correct, he was born October 30, 1796 in Glensford, Suffolk, England. He arrived in Canada in 1871 at the age of 75 according to immigration records. I found several different possible marriage records to different Sarah's in England. (I'm guessing there are lots of James Jarmin's in the town he is from.) I am thinking it must be Sarah Desent (Desunt) and they married 22 October 1818. She is listed as the mother on the christening records for Sarah Jarmin born 12 February 1819. Unfortunately it only has the mother listed as Sarah on Daniel, George, and James christening record. The question I have, is on your page for your 4th Great Grandfather, James Jarmin, it has listed:Eliza Jane Jarmin Marlin (1837 - 1918)*
Susan Jarmin Dunn (1840 - 1926)*
Elijah Jarmin (1842 - 1927)*
Sarah Ann Jarmin Dunn (1846 - 1920)* as his possibly calculated children. According to the records posted on Find a Grave it appears these children were all born in Canada and I show he did not arrive until he was 75 in 1871.

My other question is on his son James Jarmin, when the link takes you to his page, it says his mother is Sarah Greigly. I am wondering since he is your direct descendant, if you possibly have any sources or possibly family documents showing the maiden name of his wife and possibly if he was married to more than one wife and they were all Sarah's? I'm really concerned at all of the conflicting different information between Find A Grave, Ancestry, and Family Search. I'm hoping you have some family records that can help pin down which public records are the right way to follow on this family line.

I really appreciate your help.

Bangor Abbey Graveyard, Bangor NI
CW,

I noticed several requests from you for the Bangor Abbey Graveyard for "McWha" during the early 1800's.

This fall, during our visit, I will attempt to take photos for you.

Also, in the PRONI records, there was a James McFeran, of Bangor who married Elizabeth McWha in 1775. in Donaghadee (Down diocese), Church of Ireland. Would this happen to be the same family?

I am researching Macferran/McFerran/McFerron in Co. Down, during the same period. At some point during the century, they emigrated to Philadelphia Pennsylvania, USA.

I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible. Please e-mail me at LKraus303@gmail.com
