The Oak Tree
by Johnny Ray Ryder Jr

A mighty wind blew night and day
It stole the oak tree's leaves away
Then snapped its boughs and pulled its bark
Until the oak was tired and stark

But still the oak tree held its ground
While other trees fell all around
The weary wind gave up and spoke.
How can you still be standing Oak?

The oak tree said, I know that you
Can break each branch of mine in two
Carry every leaf away
Shake my limbs, and make me sway

But I have roots stretched in the earth
Growing stronger since my birth
You'll never touch them, for you see
They are the deepest part of me

Until today, I wasn't sure
Of just how much I could endure
But now I've found, with thanks to you
I'm stronger than I ever knew

When I'm Gone
by Mrs. Lyman Hancock

When I come to the end of my journey
And I travel my last weary mile
Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned
And remember only the smile

Forget unkind words I have spoken
Remember some good I have done
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember I've had loads of fun

Forget that I've stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way
Remember I have fought some hard battles
And won, ere the close of the day

Then forget to grieve for my going
I would not have you sad for a day
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay

And come in the shade of evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best

I have transferred your cousin to your care. Please note that I generally do not transfer outside of suggested guidelines, but I do give everyone at least one "freebie". Welcome to Find A Grave and hope to see more work from you!

RE: Rector's photo
Hi,

I've tried to reply a couple of times but the emails don't seem to be going through.

I'll make this one short. Last Saturday I surveyed the Frank Rector Cemetery and added over 20 new memorial pages.

You have written such kind words of appreciation. It is really quite a fulfilling experience for me and my daughter (my assistant, as she says).

RE: Elmwood Cemetery
Thanks for the nice note and there are 3 more Griffin's that i am trying to track down.

On the ones that I stated a better picture to be added later, I will get to doing that ASAP.

Would there be a problem cleaning them enough to get a better picture, I will NOT do any damage to the stones, I have to much respect for the markers to damage them in any way.

Please let me know!

I have pictures of the other names in the plots and I will send them to you in a small format that is easy to send in a e mail but I will need your e mail address.

RE: Elmwood Cemetery
You give me more credit than it took, First the cemetery joins the back of my property plus I have a book and a map that shows where the burial sit is and I just walked out the back door and got the pictures.

BTW there are more headstones in the burial plot and I will send them to you if you want them or I will post them on the memorials when they are requested or let me know!

RE: Old Mtn Page Baptist Cemetery
Not a problem .... pretty close to where I live. The church was abandoned and in pretty bad shape. I took a picture and posted it, but it has to be approved so I'm guessing you can see it Monday. The cemetery is not visible from the church and is up on top of a nearby hill. It looks as if some relatives have placed newer stones to replace old ones, but many are nothing but eroded markers. Mostly Hipps and Paces buried there, both big family names in the area to this day.
Cheers,
Barry
