- youngest member of Mr & Mrs John H Clifton family of 14 children.
- parents homesteaded in the Granum area after immigrating to Canada from Paris, Bear Lake County, Idaho.
- born in the Macleod nursing home operated by his grandmother, Mrs. Hogg.
- farmed with his mother and older brother, Leslie south of Frog Coulee in the foothills.
- married Elizabeth Jane Finlay (aka Betty) on Jan 18 1943.
- adopted a daughter in 1948 (age 3 months)
