Thank You for # 13059465
Thank You so kindly for such a nice job on memorial# 13059465 (Sgt Thomas Brian Kirk). I am researching our family genealogy and as of this moment I am not even sure if this Sgt Kirk is a blood line relative to my father's sister-in-law, (Mary Kirk born in Basford, Nottinghamshire, England 1919-2013) but either way, I just had to stop in my tracks and take this moment to send you my note of appreciation for what you are doing to commemorate these souls that served for our freedom. I too have a grand amount of admiration for our service folks and needed to be sure you were told what a beautiful job you did. I am sure his family members were honored by your posting his bio, his photo and his interment site. If ever I can assist you from this side of the big pond (I reside in Rochester, Michigan, USA) please do not hesitate to email me. kdakersmom@hotmail.com though I only review my emails about 1x/week now that I am retired, fyi. Blessings to you & yours! Darlene

Dear Mark
I believe you requested a photo of this headstone last year. I visited Bayeux last September and duly took the photo but unfortunately unforeseen circumstances on my return have prevented me from adding them to Find a Grave until now.
I see a photo has been taken for you but I hope you don't mind that I have added mine.
It seems a shame for you not to have a copy.
Kind regards
Carol (Woose)

Hi Mark, thank you for commemorating this trooper, who I believe is a possible ancestor of mine.

My research so far shows the family at that time coming up to Worcestershire from Gloucestershire, then on to Liverpool. I believe that George was a baker by trade, and moved to London before joining the 11th Hussars.

However, the name here on memorial 58963303 is actually written as WOOTTON, not WOOTTEN the latter being the correct and quite distinctive spelling that has encouraged my research.

The "O" misspelling thing is something we "E"s have had to get used to, although my wife still finds it a challenge to spell our surname every time when booking hotels etc!

Please could you look into this for me.

thanks, and keep up the good work.

Kind regards

Sipling Brothers
Hello Mark,

I read with interest your comments on the two Sipling brothers sadly killed in WW1. Whilst my own research into the Neall family led me to the same conclusion I do hope that you will not mind me pointing out a minor error in your additional information published on Find A Grave.

The mother of the two soldiers was indeed Ellen Neall the daughter of George and Damaris Neall, however she was in born in Brigg, Lincolnshire in about 1862 and not Yorkshire.

She can be followed through the census returns up until her marriage to Francis Sipling on 2 March 1880 but with a little difficulty due to the variations in the spelling of the families surname.

Regards,
Maurice
