Bio and Links
Bio Photo I will be happy to add additional information or make corrections to memorials I maintain. Please use the Edit tab on the memorial (not on my profile page, please) to send your info to me and I will update. I transfer all memorials within the four-generation rule. I do not link to "burial unknown" listings.

My added vs. managed memorials difference is quite large because I manage many memorials transferred to me from a now inactive member. I work on these daily to update with info and add photos.

Please do not copy my photos to other websites (including Ancestry) or publications without my permission.

I check my source and it was Oakwood Cemetery, not Oak Ridge. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. It is now corrected.

Bruce Cantrall
RE: Cantrall photo request
Hi, Thanks for your help. I may have to send off for the death record from the clerks office to be sure. It does seem reasonable that this is M. E. Cantrall. If this was Marion E. Cantrall (originally spelled Cantrill, and then usually Cantrall), he would have been closer to 65 than 75 and his son was named George Cantrall and George had already moved away to Wisconsin. We are not sure when Marion E. Cantrall was born but 75 would be a little young for his mom to have him. Marion E. Cantrall owned a saloon and a grocery store according to the Springfield City Directory and also "Clerks at Justice Keedy's office - 923 E Mason". He also lived at 912 Miller. --- Cantrill, M E - Saloon 7th and Madison - Babeuf's 1881-1882 Springfield, Illinois Directory ------ Cantrall, M E - 1879 Springfield City Directory - Clerks at Justice Keedy's office - 923 E Mason. ----- Cantrall, Marion E - 1894 Springfield City Directory - Also Cantrall, George A - 308 N 2nd (George lived with is dad Marion E Cantrall) By 1898 neither one was in the city directory but George did show up soon after. 1902 Cantrall George A, lab, res 918 e Reynolds. M. E. could easily have been a driver as part of the many jobs he seems to have done. Thanks. How did you find that record? Bruce Cantrall, Green Bay, WI

Anna Jones/ Strother Jones
If you want I would be happy to put something on Anna's memorial that would cover it I believe. Just to clarify I double checked my records, Strother divorced Lucy Newton, Nov., 1850 in Sangamon Co., IL. She married a second time to Ferdinand Meeker. If you want maybe a brief statement to the affect: "While we are not sure that Anna Gable and Strother G. Jones were ever formally married, their romantic liaison produced one daughter Katherine. Evidence to the relationship is found in numerous Springfield Directories listing Anna as the widow of Strother. Also in 1883 Katherine marries W. J. Corcoran in Decatur, Illinois and lists Strother G. Jones as her father on her marriage license. Katherine is not mentioned in her father's 1901 obituary which leads us to believe all events concerning Strother, Anna and Katherine occurred outside the vows of holy matrimony."

Anna Jones linked to Strother
Hi,

Anna had a daughter out of wedlock between his first marriage to Lucy Newton whom he divorced in 1852 and his marriage to Lucy Cass. On his illegitimate daughter's marriage license she states her father is Strother G. Jones. Also in many of the street directories Anna Jones, widow of Strother. Problem was he wasn't dead. She took the Jones name as her legal name even though I like you have never found a marriage for her or a divorce. I did not put this on the memorial as this whole affair has been upsetting to the other Strother descendants. There was a book being done on Strother when the lady doing some research on the family bumped into the guy that was to write the book I guess after she told him about the divorce and the illegitimate child, the book was cancelled. She told me the guy was really upset. Hope this finds you well and hope this clarified the situation.

Michael
