Bio and Links
Bio Photo Resident of Laurel Hill, Okaloosa FL. Favorite pastimes are my bible, our four furbabies & 1 iridescent shark, cooking, needlework (of all kinds), photography and especially 'working' (volunteer hobbying with lots of overtime?) as a family historian & genealogist. Puzzles of all kinds, entertained me for hours, both as a child & as an adult. Genealogy, grand puzzle of all puzzles, thus being equally entertaining. (Fascinating too).

Most interests in all Northwest FL with some south FL, most all of Alabama, Georgia, much of North Carolina, some South Carolina, much of Virginia. For the north - much of Northampton/Bucks/Philadelphia counties of PA & Warren/Hunterdon/Sussex/Morris counties of NJ areas, some in Indiana, Texas & California, just to name a few.

Just for noting, Almarante Cem & Magnolia Cem, both of Laurel Hill, and with pictures taken by James Woods, are online at laurelhillnow.com, a webpage made by some of the local folks. Check it out.

All information posted by me, is from my own knowledge & research (or from other family or from people I know well, that "I know" that they know what they are talking about or provide, ie., is provable) to aid others in their quests.

Hopefully, I can help some of these that are now gone, be remembered and not forgotten. They may not have been famous... but they were equally important.

*Note - anything I post, photos, information, or biography, may be copied and used for personal use/research/records. All I ask, is that you cite your source, "giving credit to whom credit is due", just as I, personally always do.

Thanks,
Val

Irish Potatoes

Hi, Val. I saw your message about "iced potatoes" on Karen Grady Johnson's page and had to comment. When I was a kid I thought my grandmother was saying "arsh potatoes". Like you, I never knew what it meant until I grew up.

My favorite is when Grandmother would holler out after Granddaddy as he headed for a morning's work in the field, "Bring back some rowssnears, John Henry." It never occurred to me to ask why she called ears of corn such a strange name until I grew up and one day it came to me in a blinding flash.

Thanks for the smiles and warm memories.

Jo

RE: Hi C!
LOL, love it!!!!! Hi C!!! I'm trying to hang in here, I keep backing off and taking little breaks. I need to go back through my emails to make sure I've updated everything, especially yours. As always, anything you want transferred, let me know. You have such wonderful stories to add that it would be easier for you do to them than send them off to me to add in.

RE: Re: George W. Drake
Thanx so much again Val...Yes, it's so mysterious but hoping we can find George's family and where he was born. Sir Francis Drake lived here in Piscataway, NJ back in the 1600s..So hence we have Drake Streets etc..He may or may not be any relation to that Drake line..And being that the name is fairly common for the time, doesn't help..Well, yes, I will keep digging and I do have a 3rd cousin who is researching his mom's side of family as well..His mom was my Dad's 1st cousin and like a sister since his Aunt, Mary Ely Woodhouse adopted my dad after his mom and dad split up..So George would also be cousin Richard's family too..I need to find his # and call him one day soon..His mom, Mae Woodhouse Smith is in an assisted living facility in Md. and will be 95 this coming Monday..Richard lives in Rocky Hill NJ still, I believe..Hoping he can shed some light for us.. Thank You for sending me all info and I will do the same if I get any info on our George W.. Have a great day.. Joanie

RE: Re: George W. Drake
Thanx so much for all the info Val, and sorry if I was a "pest".. lol...I would like to find his actual parents as you do..Dig Dig Dig..Ok.. I thought George and Sophia were married Dec. 15th 1850 in Clinton..But you say it was 49' so that's that..I'm sure you've been at this much longer than me..So we'll both just hope a trail will emerge..Thanks again..Joanie

Re: George W. Drake
Me again Val.. lol...I still kinda think that George W Drake Sr. was the child of Jocob P. Drake and Catherine in Hope, Warren, NJ..The 1850 Census has him listed as 20 yrs old which would go with his birth date..The Census was taken Aug 22, 1850 and George and Sophia were not married until Dec. 15th 1850 of that year which would account for him still living at home at time of census.. As to his and Sophia's children, I believe his son, George Washington Drake is JR. and named for Dad George himself. I know he was from Warren Co. and I can't find anything else that would fit him..I didn't quite understand what you said regarding him and that Jacob could not be his father..Guess I'm confused lol...And these folks taking middle names cause they didn't like first name really can give us a runaround Stinkers! lol..Ok.. not trying to be a pest about this but just trying to make the puzzle pieces fit..Joanie :-)

Re-George Washington Drake
Hi again Val.I think I may have found George's parents in my searches. There is a Jacob P. Drake in Warren Co. NJ..His wife is Cathrine Drake and George is listed as one of their sons and birth date is about right 1831..If you search on Familysearch.org., you may find what I did..I am almost 100% positive it's his parents..Hope I'm right.. Joanie PS He's my Gr Gr Gr Grandfather..
