My name is Kimberly and I began my journey here at "Find a Grave" in August 2009 when I stumbled upon this website by accident. My father had just past away 2 years ago and I had not been able to go and see his grave or headstone. I was totally surprised that someone had taken a picture of his headstone and put it on this site. My husband and I moved from California to Texas. His mother is buried in Central California and I was able meet another fantastic volunteer who went and took photos of my husband's mother's headstone and other famiily members so that he is able to have a memorial for them since we are so far away. I know there are so many others out there who do not know about this site and I want to help share this site with others. I feel it is important to keep our loved ones memories alive.|
I have enjoyed linking family together on here and this site has been advantageous in my genealogy endeavors. The following are surnames of the family I am researching: Shields; Hannah; McElwain; Detherow; Case; Shook; Davis; Pilkington; Harmon; and most of Webster Co., Missouri (to list a few). If you are related, please let me know. I have done a lot of research on most of these families and would love to share anything I have.
**** I would be happy to transfer memorials to those related and even non-related, within reason; I just ask that those memorials I transfer be cared for as I have cared for them ****
All my blessings

Your name was on my former step father's memorial page. We weren't informed of his passing. Basically wondering, if you know, how you find where he is exactly, and who to contact as to a headstone in this cemetery? Thank you for your time.

You are very welcome - we've got good records of the family burial, they just did not plant individual markers, so we don't know which grave is which within the plot.

My husband, children and I moved to Lewisville in 1972 because house prices were very reasonable there at the time. We lived there off and on until 1991 when my husbands job took us to California. My brother George David, also lived there until 2013 when he bought a house in Carrollton. When my mother retired she moved to Lewisville to be close to my brother and stayed until her death.
Here's a little tidbit that shows what a small world it is. My daughter married a few years ago to Kevin Stuart Bacon. His mothers maiden name is Shields. I know her as Ellie. My daughter did a cursory search to make sure they weren't related. I believe all the did was some ancestry.com checks and found out that the Shields landed in Tennessee and other Shields I believe she said wound up in Pennsylvania. Or was it the Bacons? I'm not sure but they did marry and she is now expecting a healthy baby, having done chromosome tests just to make sure they weren't more closely related than they thought.
Nice talking to you, let me know is any of this rings a bell or answers questions you might of had.

Hello Kimberly. I was a very small child but I remember bits and pieces and then chunks of info that had been talked about after the fact. It seems my grandfather Harry Shields was an alcoholic who would write a slew of bad checks and then disappear until my grandmother, Laura Ann a Bacon Shields, worked to get them paid off. Then he would reappear only to repeat those actions. Ah, it seems Harry was the skeleton in our family closet.
Louis Johnson was indeed Sara France's 2nd husband. They both outlived Harry by many years. I'm not sure of the dates but "Grandpa Johnson" died either before or shortly after my birth in November of 1952. "Grandma Johnson" as we called her lived as long as I can remember in my Grandmothers back bedroom after breaking a hip. I remember quite well running down the hall when we arrived for a visit only to find the bed empty. I must have been around 4 years old, I'm guessing. My grandmother Laura took care of her father in law and step mother in law until their deaths. I can remember going to the Clyde cemetery to work on the family plot with my grandmother, shovels, rakes, and work gloves at hand. No such thing as a perpetual care cemetary in Clyde back then. Somewhere I have a picture of her (France's) sitting on the back steps of my family home in Dallas right after I was born so judging from the clothes she wore in the picture I'm thinking it must have been early spring of 1953. I know that everyone who could help was at my house at that time as my dad had suffered a stroke on the 3rd day after my birth.
I hope this all makes sense as I am just writing it as I recall events. I'll close now and respond to your other message. I, too, was quite excited to hear from you!

Hi Kimberly. I was looking at my mother's grave record when I noticed you had left a flower. Sadly we lost Mama in 1907. I put the data on her grave record. If I can provide any more info let me know. Likewise I'd love any info you might dig up on my grandfather, her dad. Harry Shields. He died before I was born and there was never much talk about him when I was growing up. I do know he resided in Clyde, TX in Callahan county at the time of his death from a cerebral hemorrhage. Thanks and so nice to see the flower on her grave record.

I grew up working for him at Bill's Fruit Stand. I worked from 1963 to 1969 summers and after school and worked full time in 1969-1970. I went back to work in 1973 went I got out of the navy and was going to be partners in the business until things changed. I spent many hours with him on the road as well as at home, including bowling and things. He was like a second father to me. He was married to Eileen and his daughters were Kathy(Courvisier)Kile and Shirley...can't remember her married name.

Are you somehow related to Willie? If not I was very close to him for many years and would like to maintain the site. Thanks Rick

I don't know if it was you or Margaret that I've exchanged letters with. I've been doing research on the Shuck line for over 30 years. Your GGGgrandfather (?) Jonathan Ropes was married to my great grand aunt, Charlotte Shuck. I would love to share with you and catch up with family. It's been a number of years.
I wanted to say hello! I hope to hear back from you.
