Bio and Links
Bio Photo An old soldier, who is well-read and blessed with a good education. My interest in family history was fed by the women of my family, God bless them. My mother always assumed I'd write the family history, whatever that means. To the best of my knowledge she knew only her grandparents. Family lore had circulated about our ancestors rafting down the Ohio River. This was somewhat supported by a sheaf of fading, flaky photostats discussing the Mefford family of Mason County, Kentucky, which I inherited upon my mother's death. However, when analyzing the names I couldn't bridge the gaps between missing generations. In 1991, after I acquired my first computer, I discovered tools and a matrix in which to place my data and developed ways to expand upon it. With the passage of time, I have traced some of my lines of descent through the Plantagenets to the Counts of Anjou and Normandy, discovered numerous Colonials — even dating back to Colonial Jamestown, at least six Revolutionary War patriots, and I've encountered numerous cousins I hadn't known existed — some of those have become dear friends and collaborators. My mother would have been astounded and proud of the family I've rediscovered. N.B.: My maternal lines include, but are not limited to: Neal, Mefford [Meffert], Turley, Bailey, Raizor, Witcher, Dewitt, Sullivan, Rice, Rule, and Abshire. My paternal lines from Lebanon, to the best of my knowledge, include: Farris, Solomon [Suleiman], Hayek, al Khoury, Guttas, Ishe [Eishy], Tanous, Romanos, Shouwaysha, and Zoghby.

RE: Emma Neal, née Rice
Hello, sorry for the reply in getting back to you. I'm not related to Ms. Neal. Sometimes I just browse around the site & leave flowers :) I must've come across her page at some point.

Dear George,

You're very welcome. I'm not related to either of them, but I have a number of relatives in the same cemetery and I always like to try to fulfill some photo requests while I'm visiting the area.

Best wishes,

Dear George,
I do live about 3 miles outside of Ironton and I enjoy going to Woodland and many other cemeteries taking pictures of the stones. Many times I have to travel to library to get information for the stones. I have uncovered many stories and found the person's history to a rewarding part of the picture taking. Feel free to ask me for any pictures in and around Ironton. I love getting out in the fresh air and I love the hunt(most of the time). I also volunteer at Briggs Library going through old courthouse records. If you ever have a need Ironton info, either go to the website or let me know and I'll see what is available.
To answer your other question, no, I'm not related to the Neal's or Madden's, just a retired picture taker!

Find A Grave Update
George FYI

Very upset about the upgrade to include the Ancestry search at the bottom of each memorial. After all we are doing them a favor in providing the information that they need. The upgrade is dysfunction in the way that I can't back out and get locked into the memorial site.

RE: Mefford Cemetery at Biddle
Dear George,
I am not sure what assistance I could be in preserving the Mefford headstones other than what I have already done by locating and photographing them.
As for using my photos, it would be my honor for you to use them in whatever way you deem appropriate to serve the purpose of preservation. If they are published in any way, credit would be appreciated but not completely necessary. If possible, I would like to see how they are used.
Most importantly, I am very pleased to know that something might be done to salvage what is left of this little piece of history.
