| Bio and Links | | I was born in Lewiston Me. in 1936, my parents were Myron and Eileen "Parsons" Campbell. Lived in Auburn and then Minot Me. until I got married, have been in Rochester NH for 37 of my 53 years of Marriage. I'm interested in genealogy, cemeteries, and the Civil War in particular. Find A Grave, Ancestry.com, RAOGK and NEHGS has put me in touch with my ancestors, old family friends, the towns where they were born, lived and died. This makes them real people that had real lives, some lived to be very old and other died far too young. It is remarkable what our ancestor had to endure during those troubled days with little or no shelter from rain and cold, food commonly foraged on both sides and sometimes a friend or relative on the far side of their gun.
Before you get to Salisbury, contact Sue at the Salisbury Confederate Prison Association. She has the roster that I got from a hard-bound document "Report of the Commissioner on the Monument at Salisbury, NC, 1908" at the Maine State Library in Augusta. There is one for an Andersonville Monument (1906), but no other prisons.
I have been distracted from putting the names of the 205 Maine POWs at Salisbury into a format resembling the original Mustering in Cards. I'll bump it up on my priority list and get it to Salisbury and the Maine State Library.
Keep up the family research for you might uncover something special as I did. For five years I picked up scraps of info here and there. Just in time for Christmas, I found an "Ebenezer" in my tree. Then I found his father Ebenezer and his grandfather Ebenezer. about four generations I found George Alden, the father of John Alden of Plymouth Colony. Yeah I called my mom and asked if she and my dad knew you and yes they do! I am so interested in all the genealogy from the family. I have a daughter and want her to know where she came from also.
