Elizabeth, The November 1945 date was essentially the date the Air Force finally declared him KIA, prior to that time he was MIA. There is no disputing that he and his crew went down over Ploesti, Romania on May 18, 1944. There were no survivors, so this is his true death date and place. Italy is just where the National Cemetery is that lists the KIA (no bodies recovered) are listed. He is not buried there.

Elizabeth, I see you requested a change of death date and place of death on his memorial in Apairy cemetery. His death date and place are correct as I noted in the comments. It just wasn't reported until later so I would prefer to leave the memorial as it is as it reflects his true place and date of death.

You can leave your message under the "leave flowers and a note" button if you'd like to. If you are family and would like the memorial transferred to you, just let me know.
