I have been taking pictures of cemeteries for 30+ years. I love the history and beauty of old cemeteries. It bothers me to see old cemeteries forgotten about and not being taken care of. Any stones I find that I can prop up and clean off, I will do. By "clean off," I am not referring to any type of chemical or abrasive. I have never, and would never, use such a thing. I am simply referring to taking a soft cloth or a stick or my hands to brush off mud, grass, mold if possible, and yes, even cow poop occasionally, in order to make the stone legible in the picture. |
I get a lot of photo requests that I can't fulfill - I wish I had more time - but I prefer to do western Rockingham County, Virginia/Mathias, West Virginia. I can go as far north as Broadway/Timberville or south to Dayton/Bridgewater. I prefer not to do eastern Rockingham or Augusta County. I have gotten several requests for Pendleton County, West Virginia, which is about 40+ miles from me. I don't know if I can ever get out that way.
Please use the edit link on the upper right corner of a memorial if you would like me to make additions, corrections, or add links, and I will do so. I will be happy to make reasonable transfers. I hope people do the same for me! I have noticed some people are very good about making corrections or adding information right away, and others seem not to do it all.
Any pictures I take of cemeteries and stones, you are welcome to use for personal use. This does not mean you can create a duplicate memorial and copy my pictures onto it, which is against FAG rules. ANY FAMILY PICTURES OF GROUPS OR INDIVIDUALS, PLEASE DO NOT USE. THESE ARE MY PERSONAL PICTURES AND I OWN THE ORIGINALS.
Helpful tip if anyone needs lots of pics from around here - I know there is a limit of 20 requests per week, so if you need more than that, please put the extra names in the Note section of your request for each cemetery - this will really help the photo volunteers and decrease the amount of repeat trips out to the same cemetery.

|Brandi Spitzer Lucas||Hello!|
Hello My name is Brandi Spitzer (Now Lucas) and I was wondering If you knew how my father and I could visit the Spitzer family cemetery in mayland, Va. We have Grand fathers and great uncles we would like to see.
I understand. I was working on this one all evening.
I have photo copies of the bible pages, but, they are from a book copyrighted in 2002 and Alva has since died. I don't know if her daughter would allow us to use those.
I am not REAL sure where she got the Bible records to begin with. She does not state who gave her the copy that is in her book.
I did not change the date on the memorial because I believe the Find A Grave rules state that you must use the dates on the headstone, right or wrong. I tried to explain the dates in the bio. It was a tough go, best I can do tonight. My brain is fried. :-)
Thanks for linking. My blog URL is on my profile here, and my email addy is on the blog in the right hand column, in case you need it.

|cosette52||George / Mary C Andes|
Hi there. I noticed you took the pictures of George and Mary Catherine Hupp Andes at Mt. Olivet in Timberville. I know you take lots of photos, but I was wondering if you might be able to confirm that these two graves are in fact near each other and whether you are able to read the inscriptions... I'm sitting here squinting but having some trouble. Does Mary's say "Wife of John" or something on it? Don't know if you can help but I thought I'd ask! Thanks so much for all you do!
|Kari Olson||David Ralstone Rolston|
I just changed it to Rolston, as it is noted on the memorial, it is spelled different ways, I got my information from that abstract for patriot burials. but evidently there is no stone. I will remove the request. Sorry. I wish we could find his stone, its probalby long gone., he is my 4th gr grandfather.

Moese Triplett # 129514832 wife in my picture you have on his memorial is Mary Watson b: 1844 in Wilkes Co. N C-died after 1920. They married in or after 1880. Mary was my Gr. Grandma Alcy W. Cooper's sister. Alcy died when my maternal Grandmother was 8 yrs. old and so my Grandmother lived with Mose and Mary. That was a pic. my Grandmother had. Mose and Mary did not have any children,those are Mary's Granddaughter and Gr. Grandchildren in the pic.
