Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a retired Huntsville Alabama Police Officer. I have been a student of local history for many years. My main interests lie in Alabama Civil War Units. One of the saddest things about the Civil War was that so many young men left home and were never heard from again. Their families never knew how or where they died or where they were buried. Thanks to the work of many Findagrave contributors, I have reunited many of these brave men,if only in a virtual cemetery. These cemeteries are a constant work in progress. I welcome any and all info on any of my memorials and am always happy to transfer your kin folk. If you visit the memorial of any of these brave men, please honor them in any way you see fit. Whether or not you believe their cause was just, does not matter. What matters is that men from both sides fought and died protecting the only way of life they had ever known. "Alas! In how many Southern homes aching hearts waited through weary months for news of loved ones that never came until the suspense was replaced by the real certainty that the absent one had helped to swell the unknown dead of the Wheatfield, the Peach Orchard, or the Devil's Den of a Northern land."--J. Howard Wert. Sometimes I come home from work with a sore back or tired feet or maybe even a headache. Then I think of a 16 year old boy lying wounded in a dark field. He's hundreds of miles from home. He's thirsty, hungry and cold. He's crying for his Mama. Or I think of Robert and Sarah Milling, of Dallas County, who lost their five sons to the Confederate cause in the 20th Alabama Infantry. Suddenly, I don't feel so bad afterall. ********* I'm having some problems with my E-Mail and can't reply or send anything out. Please send me a public message through Findagrave if possible so I can respond back in a timely manner.*********

Hey Hutch,

WOW. You just educated me, I had no knowledge of the Tenn-Ala Independent Vidette Cavalry that fought on the side of the North. I merely thought that it was a 'slip of the finger' so to speak! Thanks for the enlightenment!

Simeon Jackson
Hello Hutch,

Thank you so much for all your time and effort.

Simeon Jackson is my Great Aunt's Husbands Uncle. I found this information on Simeon Jackson today on Fold3 and put it on Ancestry and it lead me to here.

I love it when I find a connection. Simeon doesn't have a birth date and the only one I have from a census is he was born in 1840 Alabama.

Again, Thank you!

Hi Hutch. I wondered if you would transfer my great grandparent, Albert and Sarah James to me? I've uploaded pictures of them both. Unfortunately, no pictures exist, as far as I know, of Albert during the war. Thank you, Robby James.

RE: James W. Amos
Hi Hutch, or anyone in the public forum for Find A Grave. Do you know of a way I can obtain a photo of Sgt. James Willis Amos (1837-1915)when he was in the Civil War from Alabama? He Enlisted January 1, 1864. Appreciate hearing from you.

Hi Hutch,
I'm so very impressed with your virtual cemeteries of Alabama Civil War units. Would you please add the following link to my ggg grandfather's grave in Nashville to the 1st Alabama Cavalry USA cemetery?

David Lester
Thank you Hutch for replying. I haven't found this David Lester in my family yet but I am pretty sure he is in it somewhere. Don't transfer him to me yet. I appreciate your reply. So many people on findagrave are difficult to deal with. They seem to forget the whole purpose of it - honoring those who have passed before us! You are exceptional.
