Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a retired Huntsville Alabama Police Officer. I have been a student of local history for many years. My main interests lie in Alabama Civil War Units. One of the saddest things about the Civil War was that so many young men left home and were never heard from again. Their families never knew how or where they died or where they were buried. Thanks to the work of many Findagrave contributors, I have reunited many of these brave men,if only in a virtual cemetery. These cemeteries are a constant work in progress. I welcome any and all info on any of my memorials and am always happy to transfer your kin folk. If you visit the memorial of any of these brave men, please honor them in any way you see fit. Whether or not you believe their cause was just, does not matter. What matters is that men from both sides fought and died protecting the only way of life they had ever known. "Alas! In how many Southern homes aching hearts waited through weary months for news of loved ones that never came until the suspense was replaced by the real certainty that the absent one had helped to swell the unknown dead of the Wheatfield, the Peach Orchard, or the Devil's Den of a Northern land."--J. Howard Wert. Sometimes I come home from work with a sore back or tired feet or maybe even a headache. Then I think of a 16 year old boy lying wounded in a dark field. He's hundreds of miles from home. He's thirsty, hungry and cold. He's crying for his Mama. Or I think of Robert and Sarah Milling, of Dallas County, who lost their five sons to the Confederate cause in the 20th Alabama Infantry. Suddenly, I don't feel so bad afterall.

George P. Brown update
I have updated George's record on Find A Grave and added cemetery photos for him. An individual photo of his grave marker will be added soon taken by the SCV caretaker, David Wright. he lovingly tends all the graves there. I didn't have time to try to find the database but if there is more info for George that should be added to his bio please send it to me and I will add it such as wife, children, etc. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Our info was based on the handwritten records on file in Richmond, VA. on microfilm and often hard to read. Seems the 0 looked like a 6 I am sure. Thanks again. Sue (SM)

George P. Brown
I will check on the above soldier you inquired about regarding his regiment and get back to you. I am certain he is the same one but checking before changing his info. It is the goal of all of us to get the history of the soldiers correct and hopefully their descendants will locate them one day on here. George is buried in the newly created Confederate Veteran's Memorial Square in Ettrick Cemetery, Ettrick, VA. Each was given a grave stone so they will always be remembered. I will get back to you. RE: T.J. Barry / T.J. Berry
I did some research and discovered that a Pvt. T.J. Berry of Company I 42nd Ala. Inf. Regt. is listed as died at Vicksburg 08 June 1863. This is obviously him. The regiment number on the stone is in error.

Best Regards, Henry

Reed's in Madison Co
I there I've sent you a message before I think. It was about my grandfather James William Reed. I've been to the Heritage Room there at the library in Huntsville, still can't find much about him. Anyway, the reason why I am writing you this today is that I'm curious to know why there are sooo many Reeds in that area. Especially around Gurley and Killingsworth Cove. Thought maybe you'd tripped across something in all your research. I can only guess there was a large Reed plantation, maybe more. Thanks for reading this and happy Independence Day!

T.J. Barry / T.J. Berry
I am doing in-depth research on the 40th Ala. Inf. Regt., CSA. There is a listing for a T.J. Barry of Co. I 40th Ala. died 08 June 1863 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Vicksburg, Miss. I find no such soldier with this company nor regiment. However, I do find a T.J. Berry that was with Company I 42nd Alabama Inf. Regt. The 42nd was at the siege of Vicksburg during the date of this soldier's death. I strongly believe this is Berry of the 42nd.

Best Regards,

Henry Seale
