"Geologists have a saying: rocks remember."

1930 ~ 2012

For his final task on the Moon,
Neil left a small package filled with items memorializing previously deceased pioneers in space exploration, including Soviet cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin and Vladimir Komarov, and Apollo 1 astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee.

Now it's Neil's turn, and our turn to memorialize him.

His family released the following statement:

"For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple request. Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink."

Thank you for filling in a few holes of this family. We are related as I am the GGG Granddaughter of Daniel Southworth Virgil who was a brother to Erastus whose wife was Sophia Hancock. I would LOVE to get in contact and converse more as have been tracing this family for many years.

William B. Stovall
Hi Laura,

Are you any relation to Louise Stovall of Texas?

The reason I ask is that Louise Stovall of Quinlan, Texas has/had a copy of her great-grandfather's marriage license. His name was William B. Stovall. My great-great grandfather was William B. Stovall and he, too, was supposed to be buried in the cemetery at Sumpter, AR. There is no record of him or his daughter, Amanda.

When I saw this notation for Iva, I wondered if there could be any relation. I would love to hear from you. Please let me know.

Virgil Family
More Virgil Family? My Great-Grandfather Frank Virgil came from Fabius, New York to Michigan in the 1870's. Growing up we only knew of our Michigan Family; now that I'm researching our family roots I'm learning of more and more Virgil Family. Where do you connect with the family? I look forward to hearing back from you. Claudia

Jodie W. Stovall Davis #113274921
Hi Lara,

Jodie Stovall Davis was my maternal great-grandmother. We called her "Little Mama" because she was so tiny. I was 15 when she died, so I remember her well.

I have not been able to find anything about her before she married Houston Davis, and I would love to know more about her people. Anything you could tell me would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Iris Iwana Stovall Virgil, Memorial# 117168739
Laura, thank you for sending me the message about Iris and I will certainly delete her memorial. I apologize for that very much. I was doing genealogy research for a good friend of mine who is a descendant of Fannie Virgil. She didn't know much about the Virgil family, other than remembered that Fannie had a brother that lived in Texas. He would send them grapefruit at Christmas. I can't recall right now how I got the info about Iris, maybe a family tree on Ancestry. Again, I'm very sorry about the mistake and will take care of it right away. Would you mind if I made a notation of her name as Virgil Jr's wife on his memorial? Also, please check to see if the other memorials I put on are correct - is Virgil Jr ok? Let me know about adding her name in his bio. If you would rather not have that done, I won't add it. Thank you again for the message and I again apologize. Martha
