The attached photo is from 411 N. Wilmington St. Raleigh NC, my mother's childhood home. A home which no longer exists along with many others in the surrounding area between Peace College and the State Capitol.|
I have a interest in Wake Co,researching the surnames Carver, Gill, John Davis d Aug 1829, Dunn, High, Horn, Moring,and Taylor(Nash Co) maternal line
Surnames in Rockingham and Caswell Co Alcorn AKA Alcon,Betts,Fitzgerald,Mills,Nunnally,Powell,Robertson,Stubblefield paternal line and so many more families with ties to these counties and beyond.
A resident of Somerset Co, NJ for 28 years.
I've posted many photos from the NC yearbook collection which are available on at line at ncgenweb.us/nc/bookshelf/yearbooks/ The vast majority of photos I have used are from 1930 and earlier yearbooks. After contacting several schools over the use of these photos and copyright law, I have been told as long as I'm not profiting from them and have listed the source, I'm in compliance with the law under the guideline of fair use. As of early 2012 and ancestry including yearbooks on their website, the issue of photos and copyright issues would appear to be a mute point. If a family member wishes me to remove any photo I have posted, just let me know.
I'm trying to add more records at Oakwood & Montlawn, however genealogy is my first love. I enjoy finding the elusive badly transcribed records that help document a family. I think the 1940 Wake census may be the worst yet. As of FEB 2014, I can identify 4400+ individuals in my extended tree that are buried at Oakwood, 2100+ at Montlawn and with a total database of 66800+. Any memorial I add will based on a combination of death, census and Oakwood records. The memorial's and photo's I add are done so with much respect to that individual, their family and the history of North Carolina. I try to link memorials or add other details that may be useful to someone's research. The majority of the memorials will be part of my Wake County "Six Degrees of Separation" Tree. Visits to Oakwood in Aug 2012 & Aug 2013 to take photos.
My findagrave wish list would be a paper scroll symbol to signify there is a paper document which would leave the portrait symbol for actual pictures of people.
I do like to link and if I have not, it is just an oversight on my part. I try not to be overly with other members, but thanks to all that help with my suggestions/requests.
My memorials are frequently revisited and updated especially since finding additional records at familysearch.org which ancestry does not have. These records are available to all researchers. Their records include death certificates 1931-1994 and a marriage collection thru 1979. May I respectfully suggest, anyone posting current deaths without a birthdate revisit your memorials and get the birthdate from the social security index which is also available on familysearch.org.
PLEASE, no death certificates on my memorials. Would you want one on your own family? I don't think so.
It has recently come to my attention the GPS location for individuals buried at Oakwood can be found in the recently updated database. Find your individual within the official Oakwood database and then click on Map. If you're requesting a photo for any of my memorial's at Oakwood let me know and I will update the location.

I need a high resolution photo of E.F. Aydlett (the man, not the grave stone)of Elizabeth City, NC to include in a book that is to be published soon. I noticed that you had contributed a good clear photo of him on his find a grave page. Could you possibly send me a copy of it? The publisher requires 300 dpi or higher. I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks!

Hi Dana. I didn't link Elizabeth to Henry, so I can't correct it. Polly
Sorry for the slip of the fingers, that would be William Henry Cunninggim, which appears to have changed to Cunningham with the family of Rev WH C.

Just checked my memorials and I recently added four Taylors, 2 Gill's and one High.....you may want to check and see if any of these are yours!
|Karen Mickel Bennett||Britt At Montlawn|
Hi There -- Very thoughtful of you to send the email mentioning I took the photo of the Britt memorial. Most people would not take the time to do this and I appreciate your being so kind. I have done a lot at Montlawn also and see your name many times when I am adding something and you have already done it. Glad we are getting some of Montlawn done! Lots to go though! Thanks for your good work! Have a Merry Christmas and a healthy New Year! I will keep an eye out for your names.

Thank you so much for the photo of Vara Sanders Britt. We appreciate you helping us with the photo because I am not physically able to go to the cemeteries to take the photos. It means a lot to our family. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! God Bless.
