I became interested in grave hunting as an offshoot of my early interest in famous gunfighters of the Old West. As a teen, I visited the graves of people like Doc Holliday, Billy the Kid and Bat Masterson. When I discovered Find A Grave, I began entering the names of all the armed forces veterans buried in the Cedaredge, Colorado cemetery, a project that I finished in early 2004. I am a Vietnam veteran (U.S. Marine Corps, 1967-1970) and I retired in 2001 after a thirty year career in law enforcement. In 2005 I started a second career as a cemetery administrator for the National Cemetery Administration, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (see our Nationwide Gravesite Locator at www.cem.va.gov). My special interest on Find a Grave is ensuring that Old West lawmen and outlaws, especially frontier peace officers killed in the line of duty, are memorialized. I try and enter at least one or two veterans from each cemetery that I visit. I also enjoy genealogy and have located and entered the graves of several of my ancestors. Researching family names: Spencer, Pike, LeCrone, McDuffie. | |
