Bio and Links
Bio Photo If you know of any one memorialized here who served aboard the USS Melvin DD-680 in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, please let me know.

I'm a transplanted New Englander. My parents are Paul Oscar Avery(1921-2003) and Betty Wheaton Avery(1925-1992). My mom's and aunt's interest in family history was passed to me. I have been doing family history research for over 25 years, most of which has been in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.

I am retired, and live in The Villages, Florida, and would be happy to find and photograph cemetery stones of your friends or family in the Sumter - Lake - Marion County area.

If you find some pictures or monuments I haven't included, I'd love to hear from you when you post them. And corrections or additions to my postings are welcome. All suggestions are responded to within 48 hours unless I am out of town. If you supply me with additional information, I will always research and double check it before posting it to a memorial. There is simply too much inaccurate information out there.

Please use the EDIT button on the memorial to initiate correspondence and recommend updates. I am no longer able to respond to emails that do not provide quick and easy access to the memorial in question. Also, if your e-mail is not provided on your profile page, I won't be able to respond to you if a response is needed. The public messages are not appropriate for back and forth discussion.

Regarding transfers outside guidelines..... I will consider transfer to those who have a proven track record of collaboration on FindAGrave. I have been burned once too many times by new contributors that are subsequently unresponsive. And PLEASE do not demand transfers. If you do, you will be ignored.

I have completed projects on all cemeteries in Hawley, Buckland, Colrain, and Charlemont, Massachusetts. And another in Sears Cemetery in Barnstable County. Current projects include the Jenks Family in Rhode Island, and Shelburne, Franklin Co, Mass cemeteries. If any of my entries connects to your ancestors, let me know.

There are so many "orphan" memorials here on Find-A-Grave, many of which have been posted en masse and then forgotten. So many need identification and linking so we know who they were! I believe that posting a memorial carries with it a duty and responsibility to manage that memorial properly, taking the time to research, identify, and link the memorial properly, along with a willingness to work with others who may also have an interest in that memorial. The vast majority of Find-A-Grave contributors are wonderful collaborators. But, if you add thousands of memorials, be prepared to manage and care for them, and at least have the common courtesy to respond to update/correction requests.

RE: David Avery
It is a book of newspaper articles from 1905-1906 I do believe she said. She said she paid $25 dollars and it has all kinds of articles.
Glad you have it. Kim

Thank you for the heads-up. I will be the first to admit that I don't know too much about this Kenyon/Kinyon line.

Samuel Harrington
Hi Kevin,

I have done some research and this is an other line that is going to be disputed. I have found one source that shows his parents as Samuel and Mary. And a lot of source that are showing Samuel and Elizabeth so for the time being will leave it with Samuel and Mary.

Thanks for your note. The marriage record shows her father's name as Edward G. Vinal. It seems to me that Carrie's parents divorced. I find an Edward G. Vinal in several of the census records up to 1930 (which states he was a veteran of the Spanish-American War). There's also a possible Naval enlistment record in 1885.

Thanks for sending the edit for Mary Brand Avery Hall.... I am not exactly sure how that slip up ended up on the memorial that way but I am glad you noticed it.
I photo'd the plot for the Brand family there at Lexington cemetery, and think I put most of them in a virtual cemetery on my contributor page, if it helps you at all. Another person had some interest and it was a very large plot for the extended family members.
Thanks again.

I have made your additions to his memorial page and also the reference to his cenotaph in Massachusetts. If you would like his memorial page transferred to you...just send me an edit...he is not a relative of mine. Southwest Cemetery in Vernon CT is relatively small but well kept. Unfortunately it is now on a main road with several pine trees that give lots of shadows to the gravestones.

Let me know if I can be of further help in CT,
