Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm married to a wonderful man. I have 2 grown children and 2 beautiful granddaughters. I've been working on genealogy since the mid 1980's. I was born and raised in NW Indiana.
If there are any photo's you need from this area I'll see what I can do.
I don't mind if you use the photo's I post as long as you are doing it respectfully and give credit where credit is due. I believe that genealogy and research should be shared. I am not in it for the numbers of being the one who's taken the most photo's or written the most memorials. And I will transfer any memorial that I have added to a registered family member of the person.
When I create memorials that aren't my direct ancestors, I feel it is a privilege to pass them on. I just like to help people "see" their loved ones.
Thank you.

RE: Cedar Creek Cemetery
Just wanted you to know I answered your email. As for death certificates, I do not have those as yet. My resources are limited, so if I can get hold of any death record, I will see if the cemetery name was specified. I hadn't thought of that, as a matter of fact....that would be a darned good source.

RE: Cedar Creek Cemetery
After talking with other individuals on this subject, could you give me the name of the person you spoke with and contact information? I have found another source besides rootsweb that says the cemetery was Cedar Lake cemetery a.k.a. Cedar Creek Cemetery a.k.a. Tinkerville Cemetery. The address is on Route 2 Lowell Indiana. It also lists Lowell Memorial Cemetery with a completely different address. And of course there are many other cemeteries listed as well.....all in Lake County.
So, apparently there is something to it having been transcribed separately from the Lowell Memorial Cemetery....maybe the records have been destroyed, lost, and the info never known to the modern day caretakers ... ??? Strange....

RE: Cedar Creek Cemetery
Hi again,
I guess I could change the burials to Lowell but place a note saying that they were originally listed as being in Cedar Creek....or something to that effect.
They sure make something simple a complicated thing. I live in California and would never know the difference for an Indiana cemetery except what I found as a transcription for that cemetery.....
I'll look around for more information, but will ultimately change the memorials since they are the ONLY 3 in that cemetery on Find A Grave....which I thought was odd to begin with. :)
And thank you for your time and information.....gets kinda funny at times doesn't it?

RE: Cedar Creek Cemetery
Yes, I find it rather odd myself. See, at rootsweb there are transcriptions, both for Cedar Creek Cemetery and Lowell Memorial Cemetery.
The weird thing is, my ancestor Daniel Merriss, his 1st wife, and daughter are listed in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. BUT, his sister, Diana Nichols and her family are all listed in Lowell at this point I do have to take what's there...
durned if I can figure out why it's that way.
Those transcriptions were done more than once, I believe.

RE: Cedar Creek Cemetery
Hi Carol,
Thank you for the info. And yes I knew that, except it used to be a separate burial place and I found a transcription for that cemetery specifically....which listed my ancestors who are buried there.
If I look at the transcription for the larger cemetery, it does not include my ancestors who are buried in Cedar Creek.....go figure :) !
I have to use the records for which I have supporting documentation for....right?

So for the time being, I will leave the memorials as is, but again thank you for your info :)

RE: Information (Cedar Creek/Lowell)
When I get the time, I'll call the Lowell Cemetery and ask if the Cedar Creek Cemetery is still considered a separate cemetery or if it now considered part of the Lowell Cemetery. If I am told that it is still considered a separate cemetery, then the solution to the memorial listing situation is pretty simple, although somewhat time consuming. As it is a busy time of the year for me, please give me a few weeks to investigate this.

RE: Ridgelawn Cemetery
Carol I am sorry I thought I had responded to your reply. I guess my wedding this summer and other personal issues I have been away from my family tree project.
I will try and find more information for you and I so appreciate all of your help. This is my new husband's side of the family. He told me they don't talk about family pasts. I will contact you when I have more information that might be helpful.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
