Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.|
~Henry David Thoreau
I was drawn to FAG after loosing a dear friend in a tragic car accident, as well as my only sister suffering a brain injury in a car accident on her way to school--she was a passenger, along with another beloved friend who passed away in the accident. That day changed so many lives forever!
I grew up in a small fishing community in N.C., moved away at the age of 17 and served in the USAF during Desert Storm. I've always enjoyed walking through cemeteries...wondering what each person might have been like in their lifetime. You'll find my "Pappy", beloved father-in-law and mother-in-law and our respective families and beloved friends among the many memorials I've added to FAG; thanks to each of you who take the time remember them! Also, thank you for stopping to leave flowers for our dear family and friends we've lost, to include our beloved family friend, Christopher Johnson, who lost his battle with leukemia and the many dear young friends whose earthly bodies rest near him.
If you have a question about a memorial I have added, or would like a transfer, please email me. I will do all I can to help. I do my best to honor and lovingly remember those who I memorialize. Always happy to transfer your family and friends. :)
NOTE: I have many memorials on this site that have no exact location of their graves, (my great grandfather Riley Thomas Lewis is one), but sadly, as many genealogist know, many states, to include North Carolina vital records (births/deaths), were not kept on a statewide basis before October 1913. Therefore, the location of many graves were lost as family members who did know the locations have died. Also, there are many cemeteries with the same names and no accurate documentation of individuals buried there. It actually took me ten years to locate my Dad's cousins who were buried in the "Philyaw Family Cemetery" in Comfort, N.C. because there are 4 such named cemeteries on the same highway.
I am always happy and grateful to merge memorials if you do locate an actual burial location of a family member or friend.
Thanks for all of you have helped on my quest to remember those who we strive to keep their memory and stories alive!

Thank you so much for creating this Find A Grave Memorial #68196454. So many ancestors/family members listed. He was my 2x Great grandfather. I do have a correction for you though. He was married 3 times to #1 Ann Morris #2 Mary Ann Jones and #3 Susan Koonce (although I think this was a 2nd marriage for her because both the children also bear the name Koonce Smith and were born before she married Cannon. I have been unable to verify this as of yet. He was NOT married to Frances Ann Stewart(1839-1920) Find A Grave Memorial 28740297. She married his son Cannon Smith (1836-1917)Find A Grave Memorial #28740282 and they had 9 children. Again, thank you for all of the research and posting. Donna Wilkins

I was going over photo requests that had problems and saw that the Texas State Cemetery told one photographer that reported a problem that Kathleen was not buried there. At the time, she was not eligible to be buried there (1959).
I went and pulled her obituary from the 1959 newspapers archives, and she is interred in the
Greenwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Tarrant County Texas in Ft Worth. If you will update that information on her Find A Grave memorial, that would be awesome.
Thanks again. Sarah S

Perrit Long is my gggg-grandfather. His daughter Catherine Long is my connecting relative (my ggg-grandmother).
Which line do you descend from?
My email addy is writer_hughes(at)yahoo(dot)com
Hi! Just a quick FYI, the first few children are not the product of the marriage of Perrit Long and Minerva Harriet Bailey. From the time line, all the older children (from Nancy to William) belonged to an unknown wife. She probably died in childbirth (William) and he quickly married Minerva Bailey so she could run the household and care for the children.
Just another excuse to go to Salt Lake and play in the library! :D
