Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a library media specialist at a public high school. During my studies as a graduate student I practiced my research skills by working on all branches of my family tree.

My surnames include but are not limited to Cottrell, Stipe, McPheeters, Nelson, Riechard, Hollenback, Jennings, Bucher/Booker, Campbell, Lemon, Robards, Roach, Riley, Laird, Spry, Farr, Lynn/Linn, Eaton, Ogden, Watkins, Cornelius, James, Cook, Hodgson/Hodson, Mackie, Pabst, Wright, Bowater, Underwood, Wells, Swanson, Willis, Hinish, Peck, Hovey, Wadsworth and Donahue.

Although I am not related by blood to the Tompkins or Lear families of Ralls County, Missouri I research these families in honor of my Great Aunt Mallie Pearl Tompkins Laird. There are no descendants for her husband, herself or any of her siblings. My goal is that her family not be forgotten. The surnames I work on for my Aunt Mallie's family are Tompkins, Lear, some Strode and some Maddox.

RE: Sapp Family of southern Illinois - Hamilton County
What wonderful stories! Thank you for sharing them, they make you remember there is such goodness in life - turn the evening news off once and a while and reflect on all the "good" stuff going on around us! Looks like we might have another match in the families, as Cora's father was William S. Sapp! I just sent a little page of stuff I just cut and pasted from my rough notes. I sent it to the e-mail address you have listed here on your bio page. Judy

Sapp Family of southern Illinois - Hamilton County
Heather, Thank you for your kind words. Yes, we spend a lot of our spare time locating and cleaning and researching our families. I agree, it is a meaningful hobby with no expectation of reward or acknowledgement. Just feels good and right to do it. Yes, we would love to correspond with Sapp relatives. We would just swoon to locate period photographs. And perhaps your contacts might get us there! I have not had children, so I seem to feel more connected to women who did not, and therefore, have no one to look after their history. This is why we took the time to find Zach Sapp and then took 2 trips to get his marker restored. We live about 3 hours away. Moses' son Frank is our great grandfather, who moved to central Illinois where we are now. Please pass my e-mail address along - we are interested to share what we know and take and give photos! judywest1962@yahoo.com

Mahala "Aunt Haley" Powell
I debated whether to put a nickname on her Memorial. I will add the name Haley, as it does appear on her grave marker, so immediate family must have felt it important in the 1920s. She is the second wife of our great great grandfather Moses Shirley. Of course, she had 3 husbands and no children. I located her first husband, Zach Sapp's, grave marker which had tumbled down and sunk into the ground some decades ago. Husband and I cleaned it, leveled the space, and reassembled it. Moses' youngest son also married in to the Sapp family. Are you related to Moses Shirley or Mahala Powell - are we related? Judy West and husband Jim Shirley

RE: Elgin R. Jennings
If I remember right Elgin was cremated. His ashes are under the marker. I remember him. One of the Frankford "Jennings Clan" Funny guy, but one not to be messed with if you made an enemy of him. Kinda small in stature, wirey. Good man, but his smoking put him where he is now. My mother's sister married into the Jennings family when she married Ivan Dewey Jennings. He ran the Opry in Frankford for many years. He lives with Aunt Edna in Nashville, TN. now. He is in poor health as well; diabetes is doing him in.

RE: Woollen
Two Harbors is 26 miles East of Duluth. It is a lovely town. I work for the CN railroad that services both the Two Harbors Docks and the Duluth Docks, as well as the mines in Northern MN.

Old New London is just to the west of the on- ramp to HWY 19 from Hwy 61. There is a grove of trees just off the ramp with the power lines, DOT right of way, cable TV, telephone, and whatever else buried right through it. When they made the right of way for the power, they bulldozed the stones out of the way and laid them in the fence row. Some are visible from the on ramp, but you have to go slow and know where to look. It is disgraceful. I'll let you know how the campaign goes.

You must live near the Southern WI border?

Go north out of Hannibal to Clear Creek Road and turn right(north) go about 2 miles.
I drove right up close. Would depend on whether it was wet or dry.
