I grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina, in the small town of Banner Elk.. My father was Lester Buchanan who retired as the chief of police there in Banner Elk in 1989. My mother was Mary Ann Buchanan she being one of the daughters of Pappy Will and Blanche Smith. We all lived in the Hollar where Pappy settled years ago. It was wonderful times living back then in them thar hills.
