The Duke monument was toppled, and I was unable to move or position the engraved portion of the monument to read or examine the side that was underneath and in contact with the soil. The engraved surface visible to me seemed to be a monument to Eliza Duke I think it read. There were 2 stones that appeared to be base stones to me, but I was able to view another photo taken of this monument in previous years, and it seems that some of the stones were part of the large monument as it once appeared when properly assembled and stacked. I thought maybe the husband's engraved monument had been removed to storage or lost, thus the Duke embossed base stone was for the husband and a smaller plain one was for his wife. It is possible therefore that the monument was for both individuals, and engraved that way, but without the ability to see the buried portion of the stone, it is not possible to make a certain identification.
