We live in a small town in southeast Iowa and spend a lot of time in Graveyards and Cemeteries taking pictures, taking notes, just piecing the families together.|
Some of these Cemeteries are so old that there are not any other records of the people resting there. When these cemeteries go...so does that person's existence!
We would like to thank all of you for your contributions to the preservation of these cemeteries.
The peace and serenity found in these old cemeteries is our reward!
If there is a memorial we have added, that is not in our family, we will consider a transfer of the memorial to you.
Please use the Edit tab,(upper right hand corner of the memorial) Please do this on every memorial that you want transferred or a correction on and please include your ID number.
Thank You, Mo & Dave

I believe you've linked this Nicholas Combs to the wrong parents.
Look at all the birth years. Can you remove John Combs and Nancy Harding Combs as parents?
|Carolyn K. Shearer||RE: Traxler|
This is what I have on the family of 'blind Jacob' There were 2 early
Jacobs in the area. My husband's Jacob was born 1786, and also married an
Elizabeth Cramer. The only major difference is that he lived in Southampton
Twp, FRANKLIN Co, PA, which was cut from Southampton, Cumberland. I am
still looking for the father of blind Jacob. Have been plotting some of the
deeds but do not have them all, need to go back to the courthouse. TOO many
spellings of Traxler.
What I have on Blind Jacob
According to the biography of his son George, Jacob was blind 'many years
before his death' from the effects of blasting. Excerpt from same:
Jacob and Elizabeth Traxler were the parents of nine children:
Catherine A., wife of Levi Flickinger, now resides in Story County, Iowa;
John, a farmer and brick-maker of Seward County, Kan., wedded Rebecca Yount;
Jacob, whose first wife was Eliza J. Humes, who died Aug. 5, 1867, leaving
three children, was again married, to Mrs. Elizabeth Gould, and is a
resident of Trenton Township, Henry County;
Mary, deceased wife of John Black, of Trenton Township;
Elizabeth, the deceased wife of Elias Black; x
Frances R., the deceased wife of J. W. Moore, of Marion Township;
George, the subject of this sketch, is next in order of birth;
Joseph, a farmer of Appanoose County, Iowa, and
Grazel, who died at the age of nine.
John Traxler emigrated to Iowa in 1853, and his father Jacob, with the rest
of the family, came in 1854. The father bought eighty-four acres of land in
Marion Township, on which he lived until his death, which occurred April 24,
1871. He was born Oct. 28, 1807, and had been blind for a number of years
before his death, having lost his sight while blasting. His wife died Oct.
9, 1872. They were both members of the Lutheran Church, and were regular and
faithful attendants of the same. ( (Portrait and Biographical Album, Henry
County, Iowa; Acme Publishing Company, Chicago, 1888, p 252)(JC)

|Carol Veio||John Martin & Carrie Bird|
Hello ... Can you please tell me if your John W Martin was born in County Antrim, Ireland. You have him as the spouse of Carrie Bird. My great grandmother, Catharine Martin Burke may be John's sister. This early Irish Martin line did reside in Jackson and Dubuque counties, Iowa. I appreciate your input. Thanks.
