Bio and Links
Bio Photo Being both a genealogist and a "graver," I believe in tracing a person's history from birth to grave. Everybody deserves to be remembered; to have a marker or memorial to mark their passing from this world into the next.

If I have input an immediate relative of yours (child, spouse, sibling, parents, uncle/aunt, grandparents - well you get the idea), and you do not want that person's memorial on this website, please let me know, and I will remove it promptly.

PROBLEMS/CORRECTIONS: Please let me know - I strive for accuracy. If something bothers you about a memorial, please let me know. I believe that the wishes of the descendants should be considered as well.

PHOTOS OF THE PEOPLE: I realize that this is a publicly viewable website, but out of courtesy, please ask before copying photos of the people.

PHOTOS OF THE GRAVES: Feel free to use them for your genealogical uses (but not commercial). All I ask, if you are using a photo that I took, please credit me as the photographer. ("Photo courtesy of findagrave.com contributor, B. MacBean.")

TRANSFERS: This site is not for "name collectors," but if the memorial is not a relative of mine, and he/she is a close relative of yours, I will be happy to transfer to you.

History of Odd Fellows in Ca.
Thanks for your dedication. This web site has been so valuable to my research in locating and documenting California Odd Fellows prior to 1906. On April 18th, 1906, our Grand Lodge offices were demolished by the city Core of Engineers to stop the fire that was raging through SF after the quake. We had no time to remove the very important historic documents that were in that building. Aside from the loss of a fantastic structure, we lost precious history.
Piece by piece I am going through what I can pull from available sources and creating a database. I have our Journals, which have full member lists in 1859, 1868, 1878 & 1890. I also have our first 1906 records. There were also 2 lists printed of Charter members up to Lodge 88 and in 1861 a complete list of Odd Fellows who joined our California Lodges from "Eastern" states. After that I have to pull what I can from cemeteries, closed lodges, minute books and sites like this one. FYI, of the nearly 600 Lodges that were in California at one time, Cosumnes Lodge #63 is one of the 120 that is still active. If they have not lost the records due to some calamity, such as fire, flood or simple carelessness to the historic value, I should be able to contact a friend of mine that can get the books of the lodge and tell me exactly when he joined.

RE: John Albert Graham
Thanks for your reply, but the bio on his site reads this "He was an Odd Fellow of "ten years standing," a member of Cosumnes Lodge No. 63 of Latrobe, El Dorado County, and at the time of his death, was the "last living charter member."" Which is mostly true except him being the last living charter member. In our journals of 1888 I have a list of all the 88 active lodges at that time and their Charter members. He is not on the list. Also, based on his birth date, he would have only been 7 in 1856. Our members, since the beginning of time have to be 18 to join a Lodge. I am just trying to correct a historic inaccuracy.

Not sure who wrote the bio on him, but he was not a Charter member of this Lodge. The Lodge was instituted in 1856. I do have him listed in our first records in 1878, 1890 and in our first retained Per-Capita of 1906 (after we lost all prior records in the great quake) He is not listed in the 1868 journal, so he had to have joined between 68 - 78. I will also check all the Sacramento Lodges since the bio states he was a conductor on 9th & K, which is where our Lodge used to be in Sacramento.

I am curious where you sourced the photograph of Sam W. Small. I am researching his connections to Georgia and National Prohibition and may want use this photograph. So, I'm interested in tracing it back to its origin.

Many Thanks!
