Many of the findagrave pages that I maintain are for descendants of Christian HOFFART who was born in 1716 in Schwaigern, Germany. He came to American in 1729 and died in 1788 in Frederick Co., Maryland. The spelling varied: Hoffart, Hoffarth, Hufford, Hufferd, Hoffort, Hofford, and so forth. The greatest number of descendants settled on the spelling HUFFORD.|
Christian is considered an Established Patriot by the Daughters of the American Revolution. In DAR records, he is listed as "Christian HOFFERT." His DAR Ancestor Number is A056231. His service was in Frederick County, Maryland. He is credited with having furnished supplies. DAR members have entered from the lines of six of his children: Christina, Philip, Daniel, John, Casper, and Barbara. (I descend from his son Casper; my DAR member number is 893094. For any woman closely related to me on my father's side, those two numbers would be your easy ticket into the DAR.)
On the pages of many born-Huffords, I have added as a "token" the HOFFART crest, as drawn by descendant Jim Hufferd. The crest is found on a piece of art at the Lutheran church in Schwaigern, Germany. It is clearly labeled the HOFFART crest, and it is inside the church where Christian Hoffart and his family gathered and worshipped before they came to America in 1729. Because Christian's family worshipped at that church, it is presumed (but not proved) that the crest was for one of his HOFFART relatives. It is correct that a family crest was not for every descendant of a person. However, I use that crest to "flower" Christian's descendants who were born with the HUFFORD name (with any of the various spellings).

Want a transfer?
Please state your connection. Findagrave guidelines for transfers are parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, sibling, child, grandchild, great-grandchild, and spouse. For transfer requests, I'll count you the same as your spouse, but please do state that you're requesting on your spouse's behalf. Also, I'll transfer out-of-guidelines if the request is reasonable. Send the request for transfer using the edit system, using the line "Suggest any other correction or addition."
Want to add a photograph?
So long as there are fewer than five photographs for the person, you may add a photo. The photo must be related to the individual, and you must hold the copyright on the photo (or, alternatively, the photo must be out of copyright). If there already are five photos, you may pay $5 to increase the photo slots to 20.
Please don't ask to link to a "burial unknown." More correctly, "burial unknown" means "unknown final disposition of the earthly remains." Short version: If it is unknown what happened to the person's earthly remains, please don't make a findagrave entry, and please don't ask to add a link to such an entry.
