After a few months of lurking on the site I decided to try to fill some photo requests for my town Colonial era cemetery March 2013. Tough to find with no plot. In the oldest part of the cemetery I found 2 rows of gothic brownstones around 2-3:00 pm and decided to photograph all of them. The thing is, the stones are facing north on a small hill, background is a field, a lot of the stones a small size. Had a lot of backlite glare. Tried earlier 11-12:00, face in shadow, glare in background. I had a large piece of cardboard and tried putting it behind the stone to stop the glare. It worked ok, but try getting the cardboard to stay in a slight wind. Finally one morning I couldn't sleep and managed to get out to the cemetery around 8 am and voila, the sun hits the face of the stone and all is revealed. I had to get there way before 9 am! I finished photographing the 120 stones and by then I might as well do the whole cemetery. Jan 2014 I printed out the Hale Cemetery Inscriptions and added the names I missed. I finished photographing those stones or getting area pics if the stone was no longer there May 2014.

So the Old Cemetery in East Haven Conn is photographed. See my virtual cemetery of photographic challenges that need a big mirror and a few names I could not find if you want to try your hand at it.

Thanks for the great photos, especially appreciate the extra photo of the area. Did want to mention in your caption for that photo you reference "her name appears, etc...". Lugene was a little boy. Thanks again, NikB
