Since retiring in 2004, I am a "Johnny come lately" researcher. My sister is the real expert and she is gently leading me along the genealogy trail. My strength on our team is that I love maps and details, while she is the history expert.

As a result of mitochondrial DNA testing (mtDNA) and autosomal DNA (atDNA), we are off in a new tangent... supplementing our paper trail with genetic evidence of relationships. It is not an easy task once you get back to your 3greatsgrandmother, as maiden names are often hard to come by without family Bible records. With help of yDNA testing on a male Stevenson 1st cousin, we know that the immigrant was John Stevenson b c 1656 d 1827 Isle of Wight, VA. Now to find the missing 3 generations between John and James Stevenson d 1836 SC our most distant ancestor. What an adventure it is!
