Is it ok with you to use a copy of this marker fot my website...will acknowledge you as source if you would like. Where did you find his wifes name Hirsely? | RE: Charles C Bombaugh Whoops ..sorry about name. Psed to meet you Tom. Here is what I have on my dats base for the field and staff officers of the 69th Pa Inf...it seems to tie up with dates on grave marker...parents names do not however. But on balance I think it is him. If you agree here is the limited info I have on him. There is quite a lot on the Internet on him. Have you a grave position in the cemetery. There is a lot of information on him in Don Ernsbergers books "Paddy Owens Regulars a History of the 69th Penn "Irish Volunteers Vol 1 and 2. I know Don quite well as we both research the regiment...he in the States and I am in Belfast Ireland. You agree this is him. Best wishes = Michael Higgins www.69thPa.co.uk
Bombaugh. Dr. Charles Carroll Surgeon Aug.19th 1861 3 Yrs. Son of John and Elizabeth Bombaugh immigrants from Hesse Darmstad Germany. Charles was well educated and was in the B.A. Class of Harvard 1850. He studied medicine and graduated Jefferson Medical College Philadelphia 1853. He joined the 69th as Surgeon in 1861 but resigned 27th Sept 1862 due to poor health. The family appeared to move to Baltimore Md as they noted there in the 1880 Federal Census. Charles seemed to have taken a slightly different route in medicine as compared with dealing with the trauma of battlefield action. He was editor of "The Baltimore Underwriter" for 33 years, Medical examiner for life insurance companies, Vice President American Academy of Science 1882-1894. Author of several books "Gleanings for the Curious", "The Book of Blunders", "First Things", "Literature of Kissing", "Strategems and Conspiracies to Defraud Insurance Companies". Charles was born 1828 and died aged 78 on 24th May 1906 in Baltimore Md. Lived at a time at 836 Park Ave Baltimore. There is a signed painting of Charles by Louis P Dietrich dated 1895 owned by the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore Md. (Photo)

 | Charles C Bombaugh Hi Chris, I think the image you have is the marker of Dr. Charles Carroll Bombaugh who was the Surgeon of the 69th Pa Infantry of the Civil War. I research this regiment and can add info on him. Were you aware of this? Best wishes = Michael Higgins www.69thPa.co.uk

 | Genealogy Hello Mr. Raub, my name is Chris Santucci. I've been researching the late Mrs. Winebiddle Roup and Mr. Roup/Raub becase , by chance, my mother bought her first house on Roup avenue in 1975 and we've been living on South Winebiddle now with the Roup property for rental. When I found out that they were husband and wife, I wanted to know more about them and the neighborhood's history. It appears you may be a great grandson of Mr. Roup, and if that's the case, you may be able to direct me to a source where I can learn more. Apparently, there is no way to send someone a private message here, so I apologize for using this as a way to contact you. | | | | [View all messages...] |
