A romantic at heart I enjoy medieval romance novels (reading and writing), illustrating, taking photographs, and the most recent addition to my hobby list is: genealogy. |
I began in Feb of 2006. I have always wondered who my ancestors were, but now I had a reason to look them up...my children one day may wonder where they came from.
So I began interviewing family members and couldn't believe how much they didn't know. Armed with a few names and dates (some of them wrong), I began my online search. At that time I was too green to find much but with the generous help of other genealogy enthusiasts, I have pieced together my rather extensive tree many lines going back to the early 1700's.
After discovering that one line of my direct discendants were buried in the First Presbyterian Cemetery in Elizabeth NJ, I made the 1 hour trip to the cemetery, expecting the worst but hoping for the best.
It took nearly an hour to find my ancestors but when I did I was amazed to not only find the stones legible, but to see that they comprised the very first row facing Broad St. I also discovered that my gx5grandfather was a Revolutionary War Private, something that I was unable to find online. I then realized that others must think the same about their ancestors. So I took random shots and posted them online. Now, after an overwhelming response, photographing tombstones has become a passion.

Andrea, a transfer would be great as I am managing all my 3rd great aunts and uncles. Elsie is the only one I dont have and I am extensively researching all my relatives on ancestry.com and adding info as I find things. Her full name was Elizabeth (Elsie) Catherine (middle name) Hoffman (maiden name) Read (1st Husband) Apgar (2nd Husband).
She had a very complicated life. Thanx, W. Reed

You uploaded two identical photos of Anna's marker stone. (see memorial number 25932471)
Please remove one of the two photos.
I took 2 photos today that may be John Hoyt's gravestone. I'd like to show them to someone before adding them, since the stone is difficult to read. Should I show them to you or the woman who created the memorial? I live in Sherman, and you can contact me at email@example.com. I'll be glad to send the photos to your email.

Thank you so much for all of the photos you added to the pages I created in South Dover Rural Cemetery. I went there and spent a good part of the day taking photos. Afterwards, I added all of the information to a spreadsheet and uploaded it to the site.
As I was adding the photos to the pages, my computer crashed and I lost the rest of the photos. I am transferring all of my pages for two families to a descendant, and the pages are complete because of you.
thanks Andrea -- my usual sources are cemetery lists and church records. I will be sure to note it next time.
