You meet all kinds of people on Findagrave... most of whom are helpful and co-operative. Just spending a few minutes a day on Findgrave can provide a great deal of genealogical input. Thank you for your co-operation! If I can assist anyone, please contact me.

My father, David Kennedy, was an avid genealogical researcher, so you could say, this was one of my inherited interests. He started his search in 1959 after meeting then Senator John F. Kennedy in Washington, DC. He asked my father if we were Catholic or Protestant Kennedys, after which Senator Kennedy suggested that since we were not Catholic, we must have entered the US via Northern Ireland. And the search continues...

Some of my direct lines are Kennedy, Clayton, Merritt, Head, Prothro, Crouch, Wright, Goodwin, Bledsoe, Breazeale, Smith, Guyton, Moorhead, Kirksey, Wyatt, Griffin, Richardson, Meyer, Johnston, Lott, Knox, Gaston, Barnett, Ray, Sharp, Alverson. I have been working on my genealogy since the 1990s. I always try to give credit to those who have done genealogical research ... just a very common courtesy.... Thanks y'all.

Oops! John M Ivey would be Turner's brother, not father....

Find A Grave Memorial @44045980

Re: John M Ivey, Sr.

This might be the father of Turner Ivey. Turner was born 9 Sep 1776 in Virginia and died 27 Jul 1837 in Dallas County, Alabama, USA, which is where the family was living before some of the children moved on to Texas.

They are of my line. Turner's son is my 4th Great Grandfather.

I had a nice trip back there to S.C. in Oct. I stopped in to Pendleton and saw Barbara H.S. I did not realize you lived so close! I am related to Prothros too. I did quite a bit of research on Evan of Aiken while I was there. Which branch is yours?

Rocky Swamp Church
For anyone interested, incl. you Fran:

It takes a village…to preserve out history
Thanks to the efforts of the current pastor, an emergency fund of the Methodist Church; headquartered in Columbia, and efforts of concerned people, we are repairing and stabilizing Rocky Swamp Methodist Church, (located on Hwy 4 between Springfield and Neeses) one of the oldest churches in South Carolina. It was founded in the early 1800s.
But we need your help. We are also raising money for a State Historic Marker to be placed at the site of the church and cemetery and ask that those donations can be sent to the Orangeburg County Historical Society c/o Eric Powell, 1421 Middleton St., Orangeburg, S.C. 29116. Even a $10.00 donation would be welcome! Please write “R.S. Church marker” on the check.

RE: Veterans Program at Court House
Thank you. I was very pleased with the turnout and the responses received. It was an honor to bring recognition to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

We are kin through Smith and Guyton lines
From a note you wrote on find a grave, I am sure that we are related through our Smith and Guyton lines.

I just sent an email to you with a link to a book of documentation that I compiled of our Smith and Guyton lines (plus a few other collateral lines).

If you would like to view it or download it (for free) as a PDF, it is available at A lot of relatives shared their research and pictures with me so that the book could be compiled.

In the email, I also attached some photos of the Guyton family burial plot. They are photos of my grandchildren and I viewing the headstones in South Carolina of Joseph and Hannah Whitaker Guyton.

My profile picture on find a grave is when I transcribed the headstone of 12-year-old John Martin. He is the son of Alexander and Hannah Guyton Martin & grandson of Joseph and Hannah Whitaker Guyton.

I would love to compare research records with you!

Hi Fran, Any idea why he and his family moved to Alabama? There was a James H. Willis of Barnwell ( well, there were at least 2) who was a "scoundrel" in dealings in his family business and ended up being crushed by creditors. trying to figure out if that James was ours. thoughts??

Thanks! Carol Mciver
