|Karl Thacker||Michel Wickersham Thacker|
My name is Karl Thacker, and Michel Wickersham, b 1844, should be my 2nd gr-grandmother. She was married to Thomas B Thacker in 1873. In the 1880 Census they are listed with a son, Elton, aged 13. However, in 1870 Thomas is living with his parents (post Civil War service) and there is no wife or child listed. If Elton (sometimes Thomas Elton) was his, I would think there was at least a chance he would have been shown with him in 1870. Also, I can find no trace of Michel in the 1870 Census. At least not named Wickersham.
Is anyone aware of Michel having a child prior to marrying Thomas Thacker? My own YDNA (male) does not match to Thacker, but instead matches first to Swift, then Sanders, Knuckles and Gerrard/Girard. I'm starting to wonder if Elton was Michel's, which would explain the DNA and her absence from 1870 Census. I also notice Elton is not listed in the children & grandchildren of Isaac's will.
Any help would be great appreciated.

I can try to look at it again.... it came directly from Kennett MM Records.... names are similar in spelling, so I will look VERY closely at what is actually written, not transcription.

|Jamie Niekamp||Emma J. WOODARD Cosand via via Parke County Journal, Fri., 30 Jul 1897, p. 4: Obituary|
Emma J., daughter of Isaac N. and Lucy A. Woodard was born 2 Sep 1861 at Coloma, Parke county where she lived and received her early education after which she entered the State normal at Terre Haute, graduating there in the spring of 1879.
She was one of the best teachers of the state, having taught in the public schools of this state and Kansas for 11 years, trying to teach the young minds of the children to be nobler and to elevate themselves to a higher state of being.
She was married to Aaron T. Cosand, 6 Aug 1891, in Haviland, Kansas, living there until February 1896, when they removed to Henry county, IN. She was teaching school near Knightstown the past winter and moving last spring to where she met her untimely death, 23 Jul 1897, aged 35 years, 10 months and 21 days, from the effect of an electric stroke while preparing supper.
To this union was born one son, Verling G., aged 4 years, whom she leaves; she also leaves a kind and indulgent husband, a father and a mother, two brothers and one sister. She had a birthright in the Friends church, giving herself to Christ and His cause in early childhood, ever after loving and trusting Him. She was an active worker and teacher in the Sunday school, and attended church when circumstances would permit, always trying to elevate mankind to something nobler and to make preparation for the world to come; always trusting in Jesus and doing anything she could for the cause of Christ and the elevation of her fellow man. She was a very kind and affectionate wife and mother, very industrious and economical, trying hard to do her part as a wife and mother it being her earnest desire that they should accumulate enough of this world's goods that they might have a small home of their own . But alas, in the time when ye think not, the Son of Man cometh and cuts down His richest flowers, not to wither and fade away, but to be garnered and gathered with those who love and serve Him while on this earth.
She had been afflicted for several months, but endured it with great gentleness and without murmvring [sic - murmuring] hoping to soon regain her former strength.
The cause of her death was an electric stroke near by where she was found, while in her kitchen preparing the evening meal. Being found in an unconscious condition medical aid was summoned immediately, but life was found to be extinct, and she had passed into the great beyond awaiting the resurrection of the dead, where she will have an abundant entrance into the realms of glory.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.O Binford, pastor of Friends church at Knightstown, Ind. from Friends church at Richsquare, Henry county, and the remains were laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery adjoining the church. A very large concourse of people followed the remains to their resting place, an paid their last tribute of respect to one that had learned to love.
