Edits take first priority. Will get to emails when I am able. Thank you for your patience. I had to change my email address recently for Findagrave use only.

PLEASE use the edit tab for contributions, corrections, links, etc., by going to the person's memorial page. Very easy to do! Please do NOT use the Flower Memory for this purpose; this information will be missed because memorial managers will not be notified if a flower is left on it. However, I will sometimes use it if the owner is not responsive or will not add the additional info in the bio section.

Please use email if you have questions or to discuss genealogy further. The public message board is NOT appropriate for exchanging information.

It's my pleasure to take photos and share them with you, however, please give credit where it's due. You may use my pictures for personal use only, with credit given as: "Photo Courtesy: Dorothy Findagrave #47601262". My photos should not be used for publication in any way or form, without permission or knowledge from me.

I try to contribute info when I can as I work through my trees. I branch out as well so I can help make the memorials (and families) as complete as possible. I also create memorials along the way. I encourage you to contribute too! PLEASE do your part to help contribute! Dates, locations, list of children, obits, links, etc. There are too many blank or orphaned or incomplete FAG memorials. Many are not yet linked to each other. If you see them in your trees, please help branch out a little bit and contribute with additional info!

I will remove public messages when I am done reviewing them or have taken action. I have to do this to keep it under control.

A BIG thank you to all memorial creators, photographers, and info contributors who take the time and effort to make this project a huge success. It's really the collaborative effort that we all work together to make this Findagrave possible.

I've always had passion in genealogy. Virtually all my roots started in New England 400 years ago, heavily concentrated in CT and MA. I also have roots in Detroit, all my German ancestors migrated from Germany to Detroit in 1800s. It has been a fascinating journey discovering and learning so much more about my family, their migrations westward, and local history along the way. I have found that Findagrave has been an extremely valuable tool, a great asset in my research.

There are HUNDREDS of genealogy groups on Facebook. Surname, state, regional, and local groups abound. Do take advantage of them, they are free and some folks are really helpful. Use them to find new info and to find new cousins, and more! It's been an amazing way to connect with so many other cousins!

Do take advantage of yDNA testing to preserve the surnames especially those going back 300, 400 years ago in Colonial America. is the best source for yDNA testing and also has the largest and well-established database. The bonus is they keep the testee's sample for up to 25 yrs for future tests. I especially urge those who have roots in Colonial New England have their living MALE relatives who carry the surname Phelps, Riley, Reed, Howe, Mason, Avery, Trowbridge, Eaton, Jackson, Kellogg, Ketchum, Olmsted, Stebbins, Bell, Knott, Douglass, Calkins/Caulkins, Carpenter, and oh, so many more, to test their yDNA. We need your help to establish and confirm the surname branches. The Family Finder test, which is an autosomal DNA test, is another great DNA tool, offered through FTDNA. Get your oldest family members tested first.

Fraces Bonita Beebe & Spouse
Dear Dorothy,
My husband is a 2nd Cousin to Frances Beebe. In my research of the family I came across your memorial For her and her spouse created in 2013. I also came across another memorial created in 2014. The memorial Numbers are as follows.
#135059734 and #137643161. Can you take a look and let me know if the ones I've updated are the same as the one's you created? I've only been at this for about 5 years and it' possible I'm
missing something. Pat Ford

Thank you..

Hey Dorothy,

You commented on the profile of John Spoor: "The general location of the grave is known, however, there is no marker. Info obtained from the Mark Dewey Research Center of the Sheffield Historical Center, Sheffield, MA."

When you say general location. Can you be more specific? From the old records and from talking with the people at the research center, all that is known is that it is on West Road, half way between Great Barrington and Sheffield on the land that was once the Hubbard Farm. If you know anything more specific, I'd love to know.

Hi, thanks for your message. Before 1752, two calendars were used, referred to as old style and new style. You can "google it" for an explanation of why. Dates between Jan and March would be listed as Jan 7, 1678/9. So clearly Sarah was born 1678 old style used on her baptism record and 1679 new style used on her tombstone.

Azel Lawrence Bishop
The birth and death information on Azel's memorial (Findagrave # 155085007) appears the same as for his wife Ida May Fisher Bishop. I unfortunately have not found complete information on Azel yet so I did not want to suggest an edit.

RE: Sawyers
My Sawyer research is pretty sketchy...I put it on my "Parker and Craig Family tree" from references I got there from other family trees, but I don't feel comfortable saying that I am certain about whether I even have Sawyers among my ancestors. This is because the Parker ancestors in my family only go back with certainty to the 18thc Cape Elizabeth, ME, area and I have a brick wall with respect to tracing my Parker line further back. I believe it is the "further back" Parkers that I have tentatively associated with the Sawyers. My tree is public, and I'm happy to share any info of the Sawyers you see there. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
