Your tombstone stands among the rest; Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.

It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.

Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.

Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years age
spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.

I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

I found this and fell in love with it but, do not know who wrote it. Hope that you enjoy reading it.

Thanks Ms. Virginia. I will get to it first thing tomorrow. I added it quick this morning and planned in going back and finishing it later, including the obit. Your edit suggestion will quicken the process, and I appreciate it!

You can tell which memorial was made first by compairing the memorial numbers of the two memorials.

Thank you so much for transferring his memorial to me. We just got home from His funeral. I have alot of information I want to add to his memorial. He was dearly loved by so many. God Bless.

Hi Virginia,

you sent me two census from Claiborne Parish. I have to assume that you are referring to the name not being the same on the headstone as you did not explain your reasoning. I have decided to keep the name of Toy rather than Tom b/c Toy is engraved on the actual headstone. I am aware that the information on both the census and headstone is only as accurate as the one providing the information. If you would like to discuss this with me feel free to contact me at

Myrtle A. Slaughter Lumpkin
I do not know how you found them! I have been calling cemeteries all over Missippi for them. I knew my grandfather, Hugh Hilrey Lumpkin, was buried in Indianola, MS because I was there as a child but my wayward uncle made me think that my grandmother Myrtle Angeline Slaughter Lumpkin was buried in LeFlore County, MS which is Greenwood, Ms where he lives. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FINDING THEM FOR ME!!!! You are THE BEST!!! If there is ever anything I can do for you down here in Texas please let me know....
