John
Michael McPoland was the brother of my grandfather, John McPoland. Their grandfather, Thomas, was married to Mary (or May?) Byrne so is it possible that you and I are related? My public name is bbj and it would be nice to hear from you.
Regards
John

Hi John
Thanks for leaving a poppy on all my family members on my virtual cemetery. I'm going through my military ancestors and adding them all in. I've found another one who went out from Derbyshire to Australia and was killed in WWI and buried in Beer-Sheeba in Palestine. Now this week his grave is in the line of fire again.

I'm just watching a programme I've recorded from a series called 'History of Football'. It's on channel 537 UKTV History Channel on Sky. The second episode is on at 11pm tonight & repeated at 12 on Channel 538. It's really interesting. I hope you get this email in time to record it if you have Sky TV, as I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

I saw the documentary and the drama about Walter Tull and spent a bit of time looking him up on the internet afterwards & telling some of my family about him too. I've visited his 'grave' too now.

You are right, Bud Maxwell has already died in 1990 in Dorset age 77. If I'd known he was still alive till then I might have tried to contact him. I don't even know if he had any children. My mum left Scotland after WWII and Bud had already left & was then in WWII. It's not suprising that generation lost contact with relatives. I don't know anything about where he was buried etc so I can't put anything on this site.

I could add a bit to James Maxwell Senior's record. I did ask them to make a correction, which they did and they asked me for his DOB but I don't think that's been updated yet.

I could send you some info on them both. Can you see my email address on this site? If so send me an email so I can get your address. I'm not very familiar with this site. Is it possible to send private email?

Karen

James Maxwell
Hi
I was born in Derby but my mum came from Kilmarnock and used to tell us she was related to a footballer who played for Kilmarnock.

When she died I found a photo of her dated 1934 with Jmaes Maxwell aka 'Bud'. He was 21 and she was 12. Since then I have been researching my family history and found that Bud's father was also a professional footballer.

I found that his name, James Maxwell also, was engraved on the memorial wall at Loos. So this year while on a holiday in France I visited his memorial.

I've just discovered this website a week ago and was thrilled to see that someone had left a football motif in memory of him. I wondered if you were a relative too, but I've 'Googled' your name & wonder if you are an author of a football book I found?

I've discovered quite a bit of information about Bud, but hardly anything about James senior. I know he played for Kilmarnock, Woolwich Arsenal, Sheffield Wednesday and the Scottish league team.

I'd love to find out a bit more about him. Can you help or point me in the right direction, please? I have met another relative of them on internet and we've both been searching for information about the footballing father & son.

I can let you have all the info I've discovered about him & Bud, if you are interested. It's all been gleaned fron the internet. I have put up a small family tree for the Maxwells too, which you could view too if you're interested.

Happy New Year!
Karen
