Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

RE: Buhannan-Hall Cem./Marcy, NY
It's so nice to hear that the little family cemetery is still taken care of. Luther Hall was my ggggrandfather - with his daughter (Eliza) marrying into the Buhannan/Buchanan family. So sad that he and his granddaughter - Eva - both passed in September of 1848. Eva's sister - Hannah - is buried in the Crane Family Cemetery, which from what I've read is nearby. (She passed in 1843.)
Both Hannah and her sister were children of Morgan L. Buhannan and his wife, Eliza Hall Buhannan. I'm trying to find the final resting spot for Morgan - but it's not been easy. Eliza is buried at the Sauquoit Valley Cemetery with other ancestors. (I have a photo request up for her grave.)
Thank you once again for taking the time and interest to photograph that little piece of history.

Buhannan-Hall Cem./Marcy, NY
Hello Melissa, I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful pictures that you took of my ancestors in the Buhannan/Hall Cemetery in Marcy back in May of 2015. I love that they show not only grave stones, but also the background area - very nice. My husband and I are also volunteer photographers of FindaGrave - what a wonderful hobby.
Thank you again!

RE: William James Scouten, # 103560809
I am related to all the Scoutens in this cemetery via my great grandfather Benjamin Scouten. I only wanted the transfer to fix the stone pictures....the ones that need to be rotated, the one that is not for that memorial and the one that is a poor side view of someone else. If you would like to fix the pics, that would be great, otherwise, please transfer.

Hi Again, A correction to my previous message and an additional edit submitted. His obit appeared in the 02/14/1930 paper, not on 02/13. The obit bi-line was Ballston Spa, 02/13 and the obit body said "died this morning". So I submitted an edit request to change his death date to 02/13, from 02/15. Paul

Hello Melissa, I submitted an edit request to add his middle initial. The source was his obit which appeared in the Schenectady Gazette on 02/13/1930. Thanks for maintaining his memorial. Paul Turner

Anna G. Smith Wells
I re-checked the dates for my Anna G. Smith and your Gt. Gt. Grandmother, Virginia Wells Lord and their dates of birth are too close together for them to be mother and daughter. So I presume that Dickerson B. Wells was previously married and had Virginia then he married Anna G. Smith who was younger then his daughter. Was Virginia's first marriage to Daniel Lord of Broadalbin, New York? These families must have known each other when my Richard & Charlotte (Thompson) Smith and Dickerson B. Wells all lived in Broadalbin. Anna was buried between her father and mother in the Ballston Spa Village cemetery. Sorry for the mix-up.

Anna G. (Smith) Wells
Anna G. (Smith) Wells was the daughter of Richard & Charlotte (Thompson) Smith and the youngest sister of Daniel Thompson Smith my gt. gt. grandfather. Did Anna G.Wells die in child birth with Virgina Wells? I would like to exchange Smith/Wells Family data with you. Please e-mail me at I didn't know about Virginia Wells until I saw your post on Find-A-Grave. I am William L. Fox of Wichita, Kansas.

All the memorials are richer with a headstone photo. Thank you for the time you take and the trips you make to take these photos. Headstones disappear and the writing fades with time. Photos and transcriptions are of great value to genealogists who follow those memorialized in the cemeteries and on Findagrave.
Thanks again

Thank you for the headstone photo for Catherine Rikert and the probable link (by adjacent headstone) to John Richerd. I cannot read her headstone very well in the photo. Is the spelling of her name and her dates consistent with the transcription on her memorial?
