RE: Blassingame Home
They are not descendants of the Blassingame family. I do not know the history of the land...never got around to researching that. However, shortly after the shootout and after the probate for the Blassingame estate, the land was sold and most of the family moved away. There was at least one son, maybe a second that remained for a time in neighboring Hays County for a few years, but the beginning of the Civil War seems to have been when most of the family were finally all moved away.

If you will send me your email address, I will try to send you some of the story that my research has turned up.

RE: Blassingame Home

Sorry to take a bit getting back to you, I only just noticed your message to me.

I have not myself been to the cabin though I know where it is located. I have made some inquiries to see if I can get more specific details for you. The cabin is on private property and I believe the family that owns it does not even live in Texas. They will allow limited access to the cabin but I do not know what those specifics are.

I no longer live near Blanco though for some years I did live in San Antonio and was involved with the Blanco County Historical Commission. I have done a great deal of research on Captain James H. Callahan who was killed by the Blassingame men and have researched the shootout and subsequent trials. I had planned a book at one time, but age and my health have pretty much put that all to rest. There are prejudices on both sides of the fight...eve today...and as such there is a lot of mis-information on the internet about that shootout.

Bear with me and as soon as I get some information for you I will let you know. Hopefully it will not be long.

Take care,
Don Watson

Photo Added
Good Day (August 12, 2014),
I claimed the photo requests at Willis Cemetery, and one of them happened to be Thomas Hammond. This is the only one that I could locate in the cemetery. The interest is, upon uploading the file, I reviewed the page and see the family names, of which two are in my own lineage: Hammond and Pittman. I am now curious to know if we have kinship in our common ancestry. Thank you for the opportunity to fulfill your photo request.

Ira and Lorena Colby
I have transferred your great grandparents Ira and Lorena's memorials to you. My husband is distantly related to Ira. Who are your parents? Would love to hear from you and how you connect.

Memorial for Frances Holmes
I would be happy to transfer Frances to your management of her memorial. So you know how I had it...

Frances is the great-great-grandmother of my wife, Carol Len (Jones) Forcade. Carol is the great-granddaughter of Franny's youngest daughter, Martha Lucinda, who married Benjamin Martin. Carol is then the granddaughter of Martha's daughter, Myrtle, who married Ruff Tomlinson. She is the daughter of Myrtle's daughter, Margaret Jo, who married Alvin Jones.

Glad to transfer this memorial to you as you seem to be one of the few who are sincere about keeping these memorials up-to-date for other family members who seek to know about their ancestors.

God Bless
David Forcade
