My most precious and special friend,
Steve Masters

SR-71 Pilot. Brian Shul He has an amazing story of tragedy and triumph. His talks can be found on YouTube.
Though I never met Brian personally, in my heart I feel as if I've known him 40 years.
We were so young, newly married, and in the USAF. That year was filled with lots of firsts; our first base assignment, first time overseas, first time meeting my precious friend Steve, the birth of our first child, and the first time seeing that beautiful black bird soaring in the sky. I fell in love with that bird. It made the ground shake and our house along with it; pure awesomeness! Just seeing it, in the air or on the ground, was unforgettable. It was an experience I will never, ever forget. Little did I know it was Brian at the controls.
Years later I heard Brian tell his amazing story of survival, how he persevered to become an SR-71 pilot and about his years at RAF Mildenhall. It was then I realized it was Brian, he was in that plane, the same plane I had watched in awe all those many years before. That plane that I associate with our Mildenhall years and every important life event that occurred there during that time.
Brian, I truly want to thank you for giving us the absolute most amazing show every single time you flew your SR. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have experienced its utter beauty and power. RIP Brian.
